Re: Anger
Very well said!
Never said:Human beings are possible of an almost infinite amount of anger. The longer a person works at being angry the easier it becomes and the more anger they feel. Like a pump, the harder you work at it and the more you think about the angrier you become.
We've all heard or road rage, why not board rage? I've seen it in the best of you - don't try and deny it. Tempers flare, stinging words tossed. In some ways, anger is an addiction. It keeps us safe from the world - like the quills of a porcupine. You can be bull headed and offended and outraged and stop caring about what others think, say or feel.
In many ways, anger is a way to reach for power. Any slight, imagined or not, has to be punished and you are in your rights to punish them. Bitch slapping them if not grinding them down to a pile best achieves vindication, which is a sweet taste in anyone's mouth. A sweet but fleeting taste as the person you've cut cuts you back and the anger flares up again.
When you think about it the best of us are mindless creatures when it comes to our emotions and isn't that what this place is about? Lacking texture, it compensates by becoming a place of pure thought and emotions - anonymity heightens that sense. Personal demons are just that and everyone carries at least seven. The board proves a safe place to feed them, safe in the knowledge that you're dealing with real people - but people you'll never have to hear or see or look in the eye.
It's not so much that people put on a mask while online - it's that people take their masks off that make it so difficult. Yes, that's the rub.
