For any of you who maintain or belong to adult writing/reading groups at Yahoo be warned that they're on a rampage right now. From what I've heard they've closed down a dozen or so groups including some of the biggest and oldest (like Masters and Apprentices, the huge Star Wars group). They seem to be targeting fan/fic, but I imagine that's only the beginning.

So be prepared to see some empty spaces in your group list and if you have your own, you might want to copy all the member addresses so if you do get hit can start up again somewhere else or at Yahoo again when pograms have finished.

What is their reason? Which groups are targeted.

Gosh, I hope the International DurtGurl Fan Club doesn't get hit. The member would be devastated.

Generally they don't give reasons except that their review shows the group(s) in question appear to be violating Yahoo's TOS. Because it's mainly fan/fic though I'd have to say they've probably been getting some letters from some lawyers about copywrite violations.

I'm taking J-L's fics off there as I recently discovered Yahoo! claims copyright of all new works posted on there... Gah. Bastards.

WHAT???

They can't do that! Can they? What I make, is my own, thank you very much!

Not that I have anything on Yahoo, and now I'm definitely never putting anything there, either..!

Yahooey is famous for shit like that.

When I quit Yahooey for good, was the second time they thoughtfully reset everyone's personal settings to [YES] "Send me every letter, email, mailing list, advert, or hunk of Spam that Yahoo can make a penny out of delivering."

And this to the 'home address' they had insisted was required only to contact me in case of problems with my account.

If they are terminating Groups that violate their Terms Of Service, it is merely turnabout.

I terminated Yahooey, for violating their Terms Of Services, 18 months ago.

Yahoo's adult groups are constantly targetted by "Moral" organisations and the company has to perform a fine balancing act between what the users want and what the detractors of the internet want.

Abuse of copyright is endemic throughout the internet with copyright works (music, pictures, videos, literature) being copied everywhere. Yahoo usually asks the moderator of a Yahoo Group to do something about copyright abuse before acting itself but flagrant abuse may close a group without warning as will underage sexual images.

Please don't blame Yahoo for everything. They have a difficult task to keep both the detractors and users happy and make a profit without charging for e-mail or groups.

If all users acted responsibily about copyright and underage sex Yahoo would be pleased but they (and Literotica) have to be very careful.

Dear Pop,
Things are looking up. There is a rumor that someone is sort of thinking about possibly maybe joining the DG Fan Club if she can't get accepted in the Pure International Fanatic Organization. Of course if one joins the PIFO, they are automatically excluded from membership in anything else.
