"R" rated avs: a good or bad thing on the Board?

I happened on a thread the other day wherein the Lit member was griping mildly about adult-themed avs. He had logged into Lit from his school, from his puter lab. Someone happened to look over his shoulder, saw one of the wilder avs and complained to whomever was in charge of the lab. The Lit member was asked to leave the lab.

I thought about what had happened to him and decided that i didn't want to be even inadvertantly responsible for bringing trouble to someone else with my own R rated av. So i removed it.

However, i've gotten a couple of "what happened to your av" emails and now i'm a little confused as to what's best in this situation. since i access Lit from the privacy of my own office at home (mostly), this isn't an issue for me. It is for others, though, and i still don't want to be a problem to anyone.

Therefore: should R rated avs be allowed out to play and to hell with those who can only log in from semi-public terminals or should those of us who are willing to refrain from using them do so for the common good?

I'm putting my av back up for a day, just to show what i mean by "R" rated. It's more likely than not everyone who might read this has a slightly different interpretation of that rating.

"R" rated avs...Cym--

Cym--You deserve a lot of credit to show your concern--
Shows a great deal of class--

For those of us that haven't viewed your avs, could you supply the address and we could see for ourselves?

Personally, I think your avs is very much a form of personal expression and you shouldn't feel any liability
whatsoever--You can't control who access what--

I do applaud your concern, though--

Ya Know...

I Was Kinda concerned too!

It's so easy ta just kinda waltz in here & check everything out, that It made me wonder about my av being a little too much. It is quite the same at sites like chatroplois and such as well, so...
Do You, Leave it to text or bring up your self image in bold color and imagination?

I Don't Know.
I have chosen to go naked since though ~Wicked Grin~

Keep your avatar, and let those who have to worry about others watching over their shoulder take responsibility for being here on themselves.

With banner ads like "cumshooters", and threads like "are you tired of pictures of naked women" and Mysts periodic fits of sharing naked men with us, the avatars are the least of the potentially offensive pictures that might be noticed by a casual passerby.

Good discussion- probably could have gone on the general board for a larger audience.

I agree that it is the responsibility of the person logging in to do it from a location of comfort. It is a porn site. If you log in from work, or a public location, you know what king of images are here and it is your responsibility.

My solution is also to log in from home only.
