R.I.P. Crocodile Hunter

Yep. He'll be missed.

Rumple Foreskin

Seeing how he worked around the animals, I am not surprised this happened. He seemed to tempt fate... made for good TV, but just seemed like too much.

.

I used to get a headache when his show was on. Loud, hysterical people like that scare me.

Still, bummer. :(

At least he went out doing what he loved. Proverbial sword in hand and all that.

My kids are bummed.

The menfolk are amused.

I just feel bad for his wife and kids.

He educated so many about so many kinds of animals. He worked tirelessly for the preservation and conservation of so many different species.

And he leaves behind two young children and a wife.

I hate to think that his death, in what was truly a freak occurence even for someone who dealt with dangerous animals, will now be joke fodder for late night talk shows.

That makes me sad.

:(

My kids are bummed...and here i thought a croc would get him...very sad!! :(

I think he'd rather go this way than going quietly into that due to a disease or something like that. I loved his shows a lot, and it was nice that a conservationist like hime got the kind of publicity and provided the kind of entertainment that he did. I don't think he would complain about the way he left this earth, so I won't either. My sympathies to his family.
Crikey.

Sigh, I just had to break the news to my son who thought this man was the bestest.
He learned so much by watching Steve.

RIP Steve :rose:
We'll miss you .

My daughter was quite distraught. She looked at me very, very seriously and said, "Mama, let me be the one to tell ******, please." (her older brother)

Crikey.

Indeed.

Very sad that he's gone, but he was doing what he loved.

noooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!

:rose: but i think a :p is more appropriate.

Like Cloudy and others, I think that Steve would have wanted to go out this way...but I know he didn't want to leave his kids. Very sad from that POV.

:rose:

If only all of us will be so lucky that we'll die unexpectedly while doing something we love... (Then again, we'd probably not dare to have sex anymore, would we?)

RIP, Steve. :rose: for the wife and kids.

Crikey, ma'am.:(

sounds like he was doing some good and having the time of his life.

very sad, his passing.

We just woke up to this news a few minutes ago. Every member of our househole were fans of this guy and his family and life as a whole. He went out doing what he loved; being around wildlife. The stingray was probably much quicker and far less traumatic than had one of his crocs taken him out. So, in that aspect, at least their wasn't going to be horribly gory and outlandish footage out there for people to flock to like a freakshow.

Watching everything that we've watched from this guy, he's probably hanging about saying, "Krikey I'm glad it wasn't a shark! Their reputations are bad enough already."

And Stephen J. Gould bellies up next to him: "You know, sharks and rays are both Chondrichthyes and probably have a common evolutionary ancestor--"

"'Course I know that, other Steve-O, but no one likes a smartass."

:rose:

Even for someone with a career like Erwin's, taking hit of strong nerve toxin directly into the heart--virtual instadeath--is a truly freakish, uncanny occurance. :(
