Quotes

LOL
Thanks, I stumbled on it a few weeks ago and sent to all my friends on ICQ (after laughing my ass off).

First impressions

And thanks Longtime for properly quoting Mrs. Parker for me. You win ---- NOTHING! Welcome to the board. [/B]

Thanks for the welcome. I hope you realize what a significant step it was for me to post my first reply here. Quite traumatic... especially when you consider that I felt compelled to announce my arrival by correcting something! Is that the height of arrogance?

At least I had the common sense and decency to reign myself in and not correct the Graham Bell quote as well, but I thought that might be a wee bit excessive! And I didn't want everyone here thinking that I thought I was some sort of know-it-all with an attitude right off the bat! (Although any one of my friends will say that is exactly the attitude I have when I play any kind of trivia! lol)

As soon as I can come up with a decent nickname I will register and hopefully feel a little more at ease with this whole process.

Stick around! Sounds like you fit right in to me!

Also, thanks everyone for all the great quotes! I'd heard some of them before, but many were new to me. We have quite a variety in our tastes, I'd say.

I got into an elevator at M-G-M once and there in one of her famous men's hats was Garbo. I said hello, and when there was no reply, I said, "Oh, sorry. I thought you were a fellow I knew."

Groucho Marx

*clapping* Let's hear it for Laurel, Queen of All Wisdom!!

"It takes so much to be a full human being. There are very few who have the enlightenment or the courage to pay the full price. One has to abandon altogether the search for security and reach to the risk of living with both arms. One has to embrace the world like a lover. One has to accept pain as a condition of existence. One has to court doubt and darkness as the cost of knowing. One needs a will stubborn in conflict, but apt always to total acceptance of every consequence of living and dying."

from "The Shoes of The Fisherman" by Morris West

"The hottest places in hell are reserved for those, who in a moment of moral crisis, seek to maintain their neutrality."

Dr. M.L. King

Favorite quote to live by:

"Pain will make you think."

-Drill Sergeant Green

Favorite misquote:

"Music soothes the savage beast."

Its actually:

"Music soothes the savage breast."

"A true friend stabs you in the front." - Oscar Wilde

"I knew if I stayed around long enough, something like this was bound to happen." - On Oscar Wilde's tombstone

"What's with today, today?" - Lucas, from Empire Records

"You know what your problem is? You should shit or get off the pot." - Randal, from Clerks

My favourite "misquote"

Do you remeber when John Lennon said told the media that the "Beatles are bigger than God". Bad career move. But then have any of you seen the Eric Idle movie 'The Ruttles' where it is claimed that he (Lennon) was in fact misquoted by a deaf journalist who just heard wrong, because Lennon actually said that the "Beatles are bigger than Rod" - a reference to Rod Stewart. Brilliant stuff.*laughs*

Probably misquoted....but oft heard from my mother

"If you're not playing a big enough game,
you'll screw up the one you are playing just to
give yourself something to do."

A QUOTE THAT I LIVE BY

About a decade ago, Vince McMahon (owner & CEO of Titan Sports, Inc. and WWF) developed his own bodybuilding organization called World Bodybuilding Federation (WBF). With it came a division of the organization to produce workout wear and ICOPRO, which produced the bodybuilding supplements. The WBF stayed in business for only two years and ICOPRO lasted about a year and a half longer. But I have always lived by ICOPRO's motto: "YOU GOTTA WANT IT".
To me, the fact of success is that the only way to succeed in any goals in life (financial independence, better job or career, weight loss/gain, etc.), YOU GOTTA WANT IT. Afterall, if that extreme desire is not in you, it won't be done.

A poet looks at the world like a man looks at a woman. Wallace Stevens

Hey GuyJD, I thought that motto was "YOU GOTTA FAKE IT." Words to live by, yes indeed.

My favorite movie quotes

Airheads!!!!!

"In a wrestling match between Lemmy and God, who would win?"

"God."

"EEeeeeeeeh. He's a cop."

"Wait! Lemmy!!!"

"Eeeeeee. Its a trick question. Lemmy is God."

Brainsmasher: A Love Story

"WE ARE NOT NINJAS!!" (useful in all sorts of situations.)

This is the quote I live by>

" In a hundred years from now it will not matter
what my bank account was, The sort of house I lived in, Or the kind of car I drove..........But the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child."

Being new to the BB, I was checking out previous threads...

This may have already been mentioned--

"Sometimes the idiot and the genius are the same person"
Friedrich Nietzche

One of my favorite quotes: "You might not be what you think you are, but you are what you think."

No one is guaranteed happiness. Life just gives us time and space. It's up to us to fill it with joy and meaning.

??

"Imagination is more important than knowledge, for knowledge is limited while imagination embraces the entire world."
-Albert Einstein

My favorite quote

Yesterday is already a dream,

Tomorrow is only a vision.

But today well lived,

Makes every yesterday,

A dream of happiness,

And every tomorrow,

A vision of hope.

You are a fluke of the universe. You have no right to be here.
Deteriorata. Deteriorata.

Go placidly amid the noise and waste,
And remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.

Avoid quiet and passive persons, unless you are in need of sleep.
Rotate your tires.

Speak glowingly of those greater than yourself,
And heed well their advice, even though they be turkeys.
Know what to kiss, and _when_.

Consider that two wrongs never make a right, but that three do.

Wherever possible, put people on hold.

Be comforted that in the face of all aridity and disillusionment,
and despite the changing fortunes of time,
There is always a big future in computer maintenance.

Remember The Pueblo.
Strive at all times to bend, fold, spindle, and mutilate.
Know yourself. If you need help, call the FBI.

Exercise caution in your daily affairs,
Especially with those persons closest to you -
That lemon on your left, for instance.

Be assured that a walk through the ocean of most souls
Would scarcely get your feet wet.

Fall not in love therefore. It will stick to your face.
Gracefully surrender the things of youth: birds,
Clean air, tuna, Taiwan.
And let not the sands of time get in your lunch.

Hire people with hooks.
For a good time, call 606-4311. Ask for Candy.

Take heart in the deepening gloom
That your dog is finally getting enough cheese.

And reflect that whatever fortune may be your lot,
It could only be worse in Milwaukee.

You are a fluke of the universe.
You have no right to be here.
And whether you can hear it or not,
The universe is laughing behind your back.

Therefore, make peace with your god,
Whatever you perceive him to be - hairy thunderer, or cosmic muffin.

With all its hopes, dreams, promises, and urban renewal,
The world continues to deteriorate.

Give up!

"Deteriorata" - National Lampoon
