Quiz: Art or Porn?

This is the intro to the quiz: The Good Old Naughty Days, released this week, is a smorgasbord of amateur porn from cinema's infancy. But can you tell it apart from the highest expressions of the seventh art? Have a look at these ten pictures, and for each case answer one simple question: art, or porn?

Here's my score: You scored 9 out of a possible 10. There are two explanations for how you've done so well. 1: You're a devotee of great cinematic art, and recognise key moments in film history when you see them. 2: You have a huge stash of vintage porn.

Here's the link.

I got nine out of ten as well Perdita! I am not going to say which of the two given reasons is the right one though ;)

Ha ha, now you needn't. P.

I got 8 out of 10, I must be slipping...lol.
Thanks P, that was fun.

Bloody hell, I got 9 out of 10. Pure guesswork on my part, neither reason 1 nor reason 2 apply to me. I must have an eye for porn, though, and must admit my HDD is chocka with contemporary porn.

This is not a good week!

I got 3 out of 10 with the added message 'stop being silly'

I need to get out more/stay in more - delete as appropriate.

Holy fucking crap!

I finally did well on an in-line, I mean in on an-line…

Try this again, carefully typing out the words.

I finally did well in an on-line test.

And before you start jumping to conclusions, I do not have a lot of porn. Although that does depend on what you regard as a lot.

But most porn has the worst camera work. With the exception of Michael Ninn, porn filming sucks. But I don't watch it for the production values.

So if the camera work was bad, I assumed it was porn. It looks as if I was close to right for once.

So porn is not art then?
Too serious a question here, Liar. Start your own thread. ;) No wait, there are plenty of threads trying to answer that question already. :p

Just pointing out that although I got a 7/10 score, I'm gonna claim that I got it all right. :)

I think it's pretty easy to tell art from porn, really. (Even though my test results disagree.)
Art is pictures/sculptures of people having sex, that the artist created without the intention of giving people something to jerk-off to.

So then everything on Lit. must be art. But elsewhere, how do we know the artist's 'intentions'? P.

Easy. Everyone but us are pervs, ergo, their work = porn.

Don't believe me? Well, look at it this way: we're not doing this for money, they are. Economical porn.

So artists don't do what they do for money then????

No, artists do it in order to enjoy feedback from their peers - and from morons, but that kinda crap gets deleted.

Amateurs do it to make a buck.

That was fun, P!

"The Blue Angel" was a pretty crap film. But of course we wouldn't have Bob Fosse musicals, and a million drag queens around the world all sitting the wrong way round on chairs in bowler hats singing "Falling in Love again" if it wasn't for it. Or that scene in Blazing Saddles.

I got the "Kurasawa" wrong. Thee BDSM imagery in some of his stuff, like "Throne of Blood", confused me there.

Watched "M. Hulot's Holiday" last night, by a funny coincidence. It's a very funny film, but his stuff is completely non sexual.

Oh Svennie for fucks sake get a grip will you?

Of course artists do it for the money!!

Why else do they put their stuff on display?? If they didn't want the bucks, they'd keep their stuff private.

"For the love of it??" Give me a break! They wanna be rich like all the rest of us!

And what you're also saying is, any feedback they don't like, get's deleted!

Oh right, that'll give them a good rounded view of how their stuff is seen won't it???

"You don't like my stuff, you say bad things about it, so I don't want to hear what you've got to say, wah, wah wah!!!"

Sometimes some of you people need a fucking shake!

Oh, and the very word "amateur" means doing it for the joy, for free!

Oh and another thing, as for the "art v porn" thing, surely it's in the eye of the beholder. What's pleasing to one, may not be so to another. Likewise with thoughts of what's artistic and ponographic.

Again though, as the test suggests, we have people, so called "experts" telling us what is what, and we're supposed to pat ourselves on the back for agreeing with them????

What a load of bollocks.

Have to agree with Lewd, basically, but not in tone (he's had a few by the sound of it).

"Amateur" -- they do it for love.
A "Professional" does it for money.

I have to say, SF, that you've got it upside down there.
