My only chance. To my surprise my:

'round the bed and under the walls

got today, May 8, onto the first page of the most read poem, which lists the top 75 poems. My poem even jumped right into 74th position. It had 4138 "reads", and it was ahead of the next one by some 12 or 14 reads. Right now it is still on 74th place but somehow it has lost 2 reads and is ahead of the next one only by 4 votes. Thus I better stop now before it gets kicked back onto page two.

It's nice that this (huge event :)) happened before the end of my first full year on Literotica.

I will continue posting trivia in this thread. Feel free to join me.

Regards,

About the very top

At the very top of the most read poems is "A Funny First Fuck" with the unbelievable 59560 reads. I think it is an audio poem. It was posted on August 3, 2001. It is getting 92.63 reads per day, very nice!

The 2' most read poem is "A Moment" by Lady_Siren, with 29859 reads, posted on February 18, 2001. It has managed to get more than 50% of the score of the top poem just barely, and only a few days ago. This poem is the very first on the alphabetically ordered list of the erotic poems. It starts with "A". Thus how can it be, when there are poems which start with the double quote?? Simple. This is the only poem which sneaked "space" before the title itself on the title line! And ascii "space" is before the double quote.

The third place is occupied with a relative newcomer, "A Nymph in the Wood", by Saber6, with 22983 reads. It was posted only on May 30, 2002. It was the first or about the first illustrated poem. So it is a leader among the illustrated poems and among the poems posted in 2002 year. Her other (illustrated) poem "Mysterious Lady" is placed 9th, with 14061 votes, posted on July 4, 2002.

more 'round trivia and reminiscences

Here's the poem itself (after all, this is a poetry board :)):

'round the bed and under the walls

the kisses circled thru the night
        like anonymous birds
        one kiss
        was sweet
        but only once
        passed by my lips
        and i felt
        bittersweet
        and i wish
        i left
        before the morning light

The poem was posted on May 17, 2002. In its 356 days on Literotica it was scoring 11.62 reads per day on average.

Alphabetically it is high on the list of my own poems, on the 3' place. The other two are on the non-erotic list (alphabetically they are placed there 2' and 6').   'round... is today placed 9' on the alphabetical list of the erotic poems.

I have a bit of stats from my early days on Literotica (less for the later period). On the day it was posted 'round... got 8 reads. I am sorry that I didn't jot down the time of the day of the posting :) It also got rated 2. In those days my poems tended to be rated (voted) either within a day or two since posting them or not at all . And they tended to get "grades" 1. or 2.

Within two more days 'round... had 68 reads, and scored another grade 2. within six days it got three votes 2. -- strange (where does this consistence come from?), improbable but still possible. And it had 121 reads. Something that Eve manages to avoid within a year :) And the next day the number of reads went up at least five times (thus "reads" are updated several times a day, possibly once per hour?), and reached 177. First week for a poem is special since it is on the new poems list. 'round... used it pretty well by scoring about 150 that first week.

Today 'round... has 10 votes (a record for my poems), with the average 3.6. I guess those old low votes got erased by the Literotica algorithm. :)

KarmaDog mentioned 'round... (when it was on the new poems list) in his title thread. I was new to this forum and a bit shocked by his nasty jokes about the title, but I took it in stride. Karma's thread is the loveliest.

Our first illustrated submission was viewed 162 times in the first 24 hours, and already overtook two other poems posted several months ago.

Is this a good number for this category?

On this forum perhaps only smithpeter and Judo have the firsthand experience. Or possibly a nonregular can visit and tell us. To me 162 within 24h sounds good. It takes Eve's poems on average about 20 and a half years to get just 159 reads.

Average number of reads per day for illustrated poems seems to be anywhere from 40 to 100 (possibly there might be already a certain slowdown). But the first week is special. And still, 162 is impressive. It is going to be 1 more since I will certainly read it too.

4 by 4 table of most reads by years and rankings

Here you go:

PS. My 'round... is already down to 75th place. My tears are flowing down your screens.

PPS. It is hard to format a table. I am not even sure that it is possible, because I am not sure that we use the same font when viewing the posts on this forum. If your viewing font differs from mine then we can't have it right for both of them. The table in my preview window is not perfectly aligned but good enough.

I think my W.E. name is a curse. My punishment for that Eden incident. I'll forever be wearing that apple around my neck. Hmm... perhaps, I should submit poetry under a new name.

It's easier and faster to do it if you change the font on your posts to Courier. All character have the same width:

        2000  2001  2002  2003
==============================
 1- 25     2    13    10     0
26- 50     1    14    10     0
51- 75     3    13     7     2
76-100     6    11     6     2

Why? Wicked Eve under any name will be equally wicked.

Oh, now I see! I mean right now I see, Lauren, in the editing window, that you have inserted the "Font=courier new" tag. I knew about the Courier New font but not about the vb tag. Thank you so much! Rybka, are you paying attention?! :)

BTW, we see from the above table that year 2001 still dominates the top 100 list but year 2002 is not too far behind it, while 2000 is fading away. Year 2003 is still young, not even fully developed. It is already represented by 4 poems in the top 100--they are placed 52, 58, 78, 85, by authors: 03sp (one poem) and SavgeWolf(three poems). Smithpeter=03sp has also poems posted in 2002, placed 14,26,32,49; and Judo has one on 37th place. her other top 100 two poems lost to illustrated poems and have disappeared from the top reads list but in return she got one but more advanced (readwise :)) poem--a reasonable trade-off.

Double surprize! After going down to 75 place it jumped to 73rd, with 4164 "reads". I was sure that certain two new poems behind my 'round... will push it back to page 2.

My tears of joy are dripping down your screens. Long live trivia!

several of my poems posted in May, a year ago, have no votes whatsoever. The oldest among them were two poems posted on May 14. Do you have poems (or stories) with no vote, posted before May 14 of 2002?

The greatest number of views for my voteless poems is 554. Do you have a poem with zero votes, which has a higher number of reads?

I think that thanks to Eve's successful efforts toward lowering the average Literotica number of views per poem, my posts have slightly more views than Literotica average. Here is a data table for my posts which have 400 or more views. There are only 21 of them or about 10% of my total.

Senna Jawa,

I have 48 out of 161 poems that have no votes. Only one of the 48 has never received a vote. About 10 only received one vote. How can one vote be a false/duplicate vote?
I get nowhere near the number of views that you do. Have you any thoughts why some people get 10 to 20 times more votes than others?

Regards,                                 Rybka

I have no idea what kind of votes I have anymore. Wicked Eve, Blackeyed Skye and American Woman's poems are no longer at lit. Elda remains, though. lol But do I remember last month that about 6 or 7 poems, with votes, suddenly went back to zero. I don't remember how many reads they had, though. Of course, about a dozen or more had 1 vote (Elda voted) and some of those had 100-400 reads.

But what I lacked in poetry votes, I made up for a little in story votes:
"I Like It Like That!" (anal) was submitted 11/08/01
It has a score of 4.40 with 708 votes and 81,986 reads.

A story I submitted 1 month later (non anal) has only 30 votes and 5,120 reads.

What does that tells us? Literotica readers are ass freaks?

If everybody is leaving Lit., I would follow. But only to a place common to everyone who is leaving.

I only took down the poems. I'll submit stories and come by the board, though. I'm still working on my site. I actually touched it last night. lol But when it comes to poetry I've been posting at daughter's lotus blooms forum. I have a poem that was just chosen for the June NPAC competition, and I want to submit to some other places, so I thought maybe it was time to leave the poetry part of literotica behind. Some of these places require you to mention where else your poems are submitted and some places want you to include, in your bio, where you work is published online. I don't want to sound awful by saying this, but I don't want them clicking on a lit poem of mine and seeing deep fisting and cum splattering ads. lol Not that I have anything against deep penetration or splattering.

Somehow 'round is surviving and even made some progress! I am in a hurry to report that it is right now, and perhaps for an hour or so, on 67th place, with 4871 reads. The next two poems are only 1 and 2 views behind. One of them was posted only in 2003, hence it is a dynamic competitor--it was ahead of 'round already on two or three occasions and most likely will overun it in a long run. All three are battling for position :)

I look around this forum, I check on the threads, I go back half a year ago and one year ago, oh well. It's not easy to arrive at a sensible formula for an Internet poetry site. If I had right conditions and means I would create one.

And indeed, 'round has already went down to 68th place. It has scored another 4 views, for a total of 4875, but the 2003 poem is ahead 2 places and 13 views and most likely destined to stay ahead forever, forever, till the end of Literotica.

They should bet on Literotica view scores in Las Vegas, it'd be better than horses and soccer.

'round and 'round

My 'round... poem has collected over 5000 views or, to be exact, 5002. It is on 66th place. It is not any illustrated speeding bullet, it shows me that I've been on Literotica a loooong time.

(I expect "1 Image 7 voices" to pass 'round within a week or so. It's ok since I have 1/7 of the stock in "1 Image..."). :)

5000 v-s for 1 Image 7 Voices

Yep. And it is in the 69th place (posted on May 8, 2003).

Thus "1 Image 7 Voices" has collected 5000 views in 52 days.

7 voices ahead of one of'em

"1 Image 7 Voices" has shot ahead of 'round. They are in 66 and 67th place, with 5097 and 5073 views respectively. "! Image..." has collected 263 views in a bit under three days (around 90 views per day). My 'round has caught flu from me and was slower than its average 13 views per day or so. It scored only 28 (about 9 per day). It will be passed soon by a second 2003 poem by SavgeWolf (whose two poems in question were posted on the same day, 2003-01-21).

50th & 100th

1 Image 7 Voices has reached place 50 on the list of the most read Literotica poems. It has scored 5879 views. Of the poems posted in 2003 only one is ahead of "1 Image...". It is "slut" by SavgeWolf, on 45th place, with 6460 views. Nearly 600 views difference sounds like a lot but "slut" was posted on February 4 while "1 Image..." only on May 8 and it scores much more dynamically (my own 'round was battling "slut" for a while but "1 Image..." went by without blinking its paint or straining its 7 voices.

The 100th poem has scored 3999 views and will cross the 4000 line any moment (I am surprised that it didn't do it already by now since it had the same 3999 views some 12 hours ago). The poem, "Waves of Time" by Chicklet, was posted in 2003 hence it will progress rather fast. Anyway, soon all 100 top Literotica poems will be able to claim over 4000 views each.
