I do come here to have fun & for the most part, I enjoy my time here. I try to avoid threads by people that I know will irritate me. I try not to contribute to the crankiness, but slip every now & then. I think it will pass.

Hate to say this Laurel, but things do change, and fight it as you might, the BB HAS changed. It used to be a very close knit community, with people really thinking out their responses, and for that matter their questions.
More and more people are leaving, and although I haven't left, I don't rush to come here anymore. I'd rather go read a story than come see some of the bullshit on here.
The "Cycle" will change in due time, but no matter what happens, you'll always have the different personalities, therefore bringing their own unique way to the place, some bad, some good, some funny and some negative (no matter what the topic).
In other words ... It'll pass.

Frankly, I think it's fallout from the NSW fiasco.
It spawned a whole slew of related and highly... excited... threads about taste, trolling: present, trolling: past, trolls: reincarnated, trolling: accusations, who is who, who isn't who, the BB in general, privacy, and more.
Plus the constant influx of new people, who are, of course, welcome (I hope), but sometimes need time to settle in. Bigger numbers create bigger problems.
All in all, not a very good month for Lit.
The law of averages dictates we'll have a good run eventually.

It's the controversial posters (you know who you are), who keep me coming back to this Board just to see what the current issue is. Strong, intelligent, opiniated people are bound to clash and the result always facinates me...

See, now, I *love* the "Why Do People Use Drugs?" and "Is Abortion Wrong?" threads. I totally agree with you. It's those threads which I feel make time spent here worthwhile.
I'm not so keen on "Y Is An Ass" and "You're All A Bunch of Fucking Morons."
Although I'll admit that I quite like the "X is really Zed" threads. It's a bit like watching a theoretical train wreck about to happen. And sort of hoping they don't miss. Just for the interest factor.

Ok, seriously, I'm a newbie still, of sorts...ignore that number under my name, I was bored a few days and got carried away. I love the good dialog, the threads that provoke the varied difference of opionion, and the humor that is squeezed in there in the strangest spots.
I only hope along the way I make a few new aquaintances, learn something new, and add my own humorous touch when needed to add levity.
OH, and the boards at the top, the writing ones, are especially important to me.

I have participated on both the negative and fun threads. Problem is no one is happy with anyone no matter what thread they post on.
You post your opinion on the neg threads you get chewed out for contributing to the negitivity. You post in the fun..no reason for them threads you get chewed out for not being serious. You post on the serious threads and you get chided cause you cant lighten up.
But in the end its all opinions...take em or leave em.

Not a real long post, but I have several issues I want to speak on.
I'm still waiting for my newsletter.
I don't like the tone and direction the board has taken. I've commented on the cruelty already.
I've found some other things to do. Like spending a bit more time on IM's. (sometimes)

People dont take hints anymore either... I mean I have started things in the past to get people to become more accepted and normal posters. But nowadays... noone cares enough about the board. Those who do... the so called pillars DCL Deb Rog You me Nikki Havoc etc can only take so much of a beautiful thing falling down around us before we hvve to do something to fix it or walk.
Debs done it her way, Dix got annoyed cause his way wasn't working anymore... I have tried to avoid the downside but I cant all the time.
Fun was flirting and poking fun at people... it's got lost because people take it far too seriously nowadays. From the beginning I have never been malicious (cept for Ramlick) and we have newbies walk in not understanding the dynamics of certain people and want a war with them.
It took me 4 months to feel accepted here and now once again I dont feel accepted anymore...
I wish it wasn't that way but it is... I love it here and I dont think I will ever fully leave but I wont feel so bad about disappearing once in a while.

People, if you don't like someone, either avoid them and their posts, or say so... dont snipe sneakily at them.
Don't troll someone, say it to their face, and if you don't want to be trolled stop doing stupid things that invite them.

I agree with you but we know from being here so long that these things come in cycles. If everyone would just think before they typed we would all get along much better. My suggestion is ignore the negativity. Don't fuel a fire and it will die out. We hat happened to the passionate threads that got us all talking. I like the fun and serious threads but the bashing threads have really got to stop.

Hey, Laurel, did you just notice it? I had RL commitments that took me away last August. I wasn't sad to go because there was a lot of nonsense going down here. So I figure a little time away isn't such a bad thing.
I returned recently and what do you know, things have actually deteriorated. This used to be a fun place, still could be, but there's a lot of deadwood that needs to be flushed first!
I find I'm spending less and less time here because there isn't a lot to attract one anymore. I look for two kinds of threads, frivolous and serious. Serious ones that make you think and frivolous ones that let you be an ass. Damn little of either lately!
It seems that too few of the people around here today have much of a sense of humour. Pity!! I'll continue to monitor the Board and if the adults ever return, then so may I. But for now my postings will be increasingly scarce. Yeah! Like anyone really cares, eh?

I dont know what is going on right now, or if it will go away again.

.. I thought it was funny and should be read (yeah - ok, sure I think so, after all I wrote it ... and maybe it adds a smile to some of our faces)
The Torture of a BB
It was a cold and rainy night when Hecate stumbled into the S&M club. The night's password was "Lit" and soon she stepped into the smoky basement. There in a corner - something immediately caught her eye.... it was a BB.
Admittedly it was looking slightly tattered and torn - as if it had been the victim of a few fights, and there was a melancholic and almost frustrated look about it when Hecate approached it. Nevertheless ... underneath the almost hostile surface there was a sound and healthy BB heart beating - Hecate could tell that by the warm and funfilled sparkle that was unmistakebly hidden there.
But then she remembered the purpose of her being there - and that was simple as the ABC .... torture! Some just needed that to return to their true selves! And tonight it was the turn of the BB! Sure - she wouldn't have chosen the BB hadn't she been given a hint by Todd or if Ezzy hadn't started the idea to Incite S&M on the BB.
Before the BB really figured out what was happening, Hecate had seduced it to follow her to the dungeon... ohhhh poor BB!
Behind sound-proof walls the sweetest torture began ... and soon the BB was sweating trolls and hard feelings out of every pore of it's forums .... with each touch of the whip or each tender caress of her hand the BB was closer to exploding, but Hecate wasn't ready to allow that yet ... with a smile she stepped back and reminded the BB of all the good times before she took up her torture again. Thrashing wildly the BB soon begged to be released from the bonds - but Hecate wasn't yet satisfied, she wanted the very core of the BB to show, the essence that was called fun and respect. No sooner would she allow the BB to release the building tension before she wasn't sure it would recall its primar duty of offering a forum to exchange thoughts between friendly and tolerant people.
The BB wiggled and writhed in its bonds - beggin, trashing about wildly - and after she had expertly taken it to the edge for several times, stopping short just before the liberating climax, she couldn't watch it suffer any longer.
A fem more words here and a few more posts there - and when she hit the reply button this time the BB exploded in a joyous thread, screaming out Laurels name and mumbling something that could have been "Manu".
While the BB drifted into postorgasmic bliss, Hecate carefully undid the shackles and cuffs and silently slid out of the chamber, hoping the BB had found back to itself again, to a beaming, glowing, proud and witty old self .....

To be honest Laurel, "fun" is quite a subjective concept.
I hate nothing more than flirting threads and therefore for me, when the board turns in that direction I get bored and tend to visit a lot less.
As someone else mentionned - controversy, debate and flared up opinions are all things that attract me to the board. So in that sense for me the board isn't really on a "down" cycle afterall.
As for the trolling issue, I really can't understand what all the fuss is about. Maybe its because I'm in a different time zone, but I invariably miss the threads where X is asccused of being Z and only hear about it second hand in other threads. Even then I don't really care. I just laugh to myself at the sillyness of it all and read something else.
Its true that of late there has been a lot of scandal. The departure of DCL and Deborah being the most poignant. But I don't really think it's because of the trolls that they have left. I've noticed DCL's posts deteriorate over the last few months. He was getting less funny, making spelling mistakes more regularily - all signs that he was getting restless with the board. He has been here for almost three years afterall, people need to move on - I went through the same thing once.
To conclude therefore, I really wouldn't worry. As you've told me yourself on more than one occasion - "If you don't like it, don't read it."
