Quick question for anyone...

First of all, if this is a real member of Lit, I apologize for posting this.

A few times now I have gotten E-mail from "contest@literotica.com". Each time I've received mail, the subject heading was filled out, but the body text was blank. (And, this most recent time the subject said "Eager to see you".)

This mail always goes to my "bulk folder" where Yahoo distributes spam. (Yet, any other mail coming from Lit goes to my normal folder.) When I try to reply to the mail (to say something like "Who are you?") Yahoo crashes. It won't let me even open a reply page.

So, on to my question... Has this happened to anyone else here? (Okay, two questions...) Does anyone know if this is a legit person?

Any help on this will be appreciated. Thank you.

You should PM and ask Laurel to help track that down, BB, especially if it sounds like some hacker is up to mischief.

It seems unlikely that would be a Lit member or user since the domain designation "literotica.com" should be the registered mail server name for this site, and not some individual.

Maybe Weird Harold can offer a thought or two as well.

can't say that this has ever happened to me...

i did a search of the members and the only "contest" is "contstant_num._one"

contest@literotica.com is the addr Laurel uses for the monthly writing contests. It's how an author lets her know they're claiming their prize. Maybe you won something.:D

Did this appear in your bulk message box?

On the rare occasions that I even look at anything in there, I can never get the body of the message or reply to it. It never occurred to me that anything of interest might be in there.

I know my bulk mail inbox doesn't work correctly, but I always thought I wasn't missing anything.

Anyone else with that problem?

For people who opt for free Lit mail, does their name come as "whoever"@literotica.com or .org?

The only problem with that theory is I haven't submitted many stories yet. And, my scores are bad.

Also, would Laurel write, "Eager to see you" in the subject heading of the mail when she lives in California and me in Illinois? And, would she leave the body of the letter blank?

Yes. It appeared in my bulk folder within Yahoo's mail. I check it often because if I was "suscribed" to something I like to unsubscribe to reduce the amount of spam I receive.

So, I can open up other messages within my bulk folder. And, I can reply to them (because that's how you unsubscribe to many things).

This is something entirely new. And, it's the third time I've received mail like this "from" Lit.

Now I'm getting duplicates of "So and so has replied to a thread you've subscribed to..........." in my bulk mail.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrr

It actually sounds like a virus. Even if that's an email address that writers are supposed to use to contact Laurel, my guess is that she doesn't use it to respond. We've had viruses (viri?) at work that attacked email servers and used aliases to send out spam and other virus programs... You should definitely send Laurel a note and mention it, just in case.

And I think all the free lit accounts use ".org", not ".com" -- the ".com" addresses all seem to be administrative... but I could be wrong.

Get the MIME information. It will tell you exactly where the email came from. Check your preferences/options whatever.
