My son came home from school with a black eye today. This is a cause for concern for me. i'm writing a letter to his teacher to see if she'll keep an eye out on him - it might have been an accident, but if it's something else i would like to know. You know?

-----

Dear Mrs. ------,

----- came home with a black eye yesterday. He told me that somebody had kicked him. I'm sure it was probably an accident.

However, he hasn't been talking about what's been going on in class as much. He's become less interested in playing with anybody else over the past few weeks. He's been slacking in his schoolwork, or at least in doing his homework. I do understand that happens in a boy his age, but there is a remote chance it's related to that black eye.

With me being an admittedly overprotective mom, I would like to ask you and the other teachers to keep an eye on him. If something's happening that's making him enjoy school less than he did before I would like to know about it.

Thank you,

-------

Seems OK to me, except for one thing - a kick and a black eye seems odd, asssuming it isn't a kung fu school... It still may be wise to overlook that oddity.

Good luck,

Good luck,
That's why i was questioning it. Just because he told me that's what happened doesn't necessarily mean it was true.

On the other hand, he could have been messing around on the playground, wrestling around or playing on the slide or something, and did catch a foot to the face. It's been known to happen.

Thank you ever so much. :)

- and overlooking that in the letter was what struck me as wise. You phrasing goes past that to express concern without laying blame. My guess is that that's an approach that'll get an informative answer...

I agree. It's a great letter - concerned but friendly, and shouldn't put anyone on the defensive. Best of luck there.

Two well-respected warm-blooded living creatures giving it the ok. It's a keeper.

Thanks, you two.

Glad to help.

If you need ditto in bed, just get in touch... :D

Sorry, i don't go for a quick once-over in bed. If you really want to get into reading things, though...
