quick little update

I got back a few hours ago from going and visiting my ailing grandmother. Looks like today was my last visit with her. She is in Stage 4 of CHF (congestive heart failure). She isn't the woman I remember making cookies with as a child. I barely knew the woman I seen today.

I'm at peace with this though. She's 96 almost 97.. she lived a good life. And outlived one of her children (my father). I kissed her goodbye and told her I loved her.

And I stopped by to see my mother. She is also in the hospital (different hospital than my grandmother). She hasn't been feeling well.. and had a drs appointment today. But after throwing up what appeared to be blood at 4 am I decided not to wait for the dr.

Anyway.. as of 4pm today.. I hadn't heard any test results. They have yet to find out what is wrong with my mom. Heart looked good. It isn't another stroke (atleast not a major one, it could be TIA's or mini strokes). Her blood sugar was rather low 62.. 80-120 is considered normal. Her blood sugar was normal yesterday morning when I checked it.. so she dropped quickly.

Anyway.. My children are coming this weekend. And since mom is in the hospital and I have a few days "off". I think I will spend some major time with the kids.

Update as of 10 pm 10/05/2002

Grandma is still alive.. but no better. She is sedated to make her comfortable.

Mom is still in the hospital and so far all the tests have come back negative. Except her diabetes is acting up. She has had it under control for over a year with diet. But because she hasn't eaten properly in the last week.. it fucked up her blood sugar. Yesterday it was 62.. today it 243. She is on insulin again. Oh goody.. I get to play with needles again when she gets home. I hate giving shots to other people. Especially a whimp like my mother.

It looks like she might come home tomorrow.. possibly Monday.
