This is a feedback I recieved. It is not in reference to any story I have written, while my characters do end up together I have not ever tried to inject modern politics into my works by addressing same sex marriaige in even an oblique way as it applies to the current firestorm of debate.

This forum is the only place I have voiced my views and this mail arrived within a hour of my post where I asked what was so wrong with me prefering a woman in my bed with me to a man when I went to sleep at night.

While negative feedbacks ceased to bother me at all a long while back, in light of some of the questions being raised about free speech and hate crimes I wondered if, in the opinion of the Ah gang, this constitutes hate speech?

***On a side note, I believe this was posted by someone who reads the Ah forums in response to my post and all I can say is the monumental cowardice evidenced by sending an annon feedback rather than having the balls to post and possibly get return fire renders your opinion as meaningless as your head is empty. ***

For the rest of the gang I just wondered what y'alls opinion on it was. I considered forwarding it to Laurel, but in light of my belief everone, even toothless redneck morons, have the right to say what they want I didn't see it as wroth her time or mine to find the person in question or to request censure.

I like your dismissal of the anonymous one's cowardice, you put it so well. That seems to be the best response, to me, to most anonymous messages.

If someone wants to express an opinion, I'll listen if I "know" who it is- obviously, online, that may only include having a user name, but the willingness of the individual to be recognized certainly gives weight to the opinon or view they are expressing.

Anonymous, to me, is childish and petty, and often mean-spirited.

As to following up with Laurel, you have to determine whether it's worth your own trouble, and if doing so will help keep anon. from repeating this type of thing.

I often find it surprising how visitors to erotica sites, who rely on our woefully inadequate civil liberties, such as free speech, can have such intolerant attitudes. And why is it the intolerant ones who want to speak for " everyone"? Just what are they afraid of? My conclusion is that they are lacking in their own happiness, and feel better for sharing their sadness. So I end up being tolerant.

Just to balance it , Colly, I suggest that you go to Story Feedback and read what I posted a while ago about your writing. Not " everybody" wants to censor what you think, write, or do.

The only reason I didn't just delete it and go on my merry way is my conviction it was someone who reads the Ah forums. Random attacks long ago lost any ability to bother me, but I think of the people here as my freinds and while obviously not everyone likes me, it did sting a little in light of that.

What's not to like?
In anycase it's obvious that the perso who sent the feedback was not only a fool but a coward as well. If they were oh so convinced of their "beliefs" then they wouldn't have felt the need to be anon. with it.

No, private conversations and correspondence don't fall within the ambit of 'hate speech' laws, as I've seen them. As with libel, I believe making something public, spreading or circulating is a key ingredient.

I strictly agree with what has been said by everybody else. A feedback like that is stupid and cowardly and not worth wasting disk space to keep. I get anon feedbacks all the time, usually comments on a specific story. I keep those because they are honest expressions of opinion but this is just a hateful comment.

I wouldn't mind betting real money that this is someone you don't know, who just happens to read the threads but does not contribute towards them. If it is someone that writes on these boards, I guarantee it's one of the many trolls that frequent the BB.

Like you Colly, I gave up worrying about stupid comments like these a long time ago. In fact as soon as I recieve one at the end of my tales, it's deleted without another thought. To give this type of thing credibility, is to allow someone you don't know, to mess with your own idea's of what is and isn't acceptable.

I can take them in my pickup truck. It's a Toyota Tundra and I can carry a lot of boxes or suitcases in the bed and you can ride in the cab. I can even carry your dresser or vanity if it isn't too long.

Here's my theory: it's someone who hates both sexuality and themselves, and who comes to Lit. because they're horny and can't help themselves, but who punishes themselves for it afterward (kind of like Jimmy Swaggart). They're also terrified of their own homosexual feelings and so feel that they can "save" themselves from these feelings by bashing you. And you were selected, my dear Colly, because you are such an outstanding writer and you portray gays as people no different from anyone else, in their ability to love and be loved. You scare the hell out of bigots.

Yeah, it hurts to get hate mail like that. But we still love ya, Colly.

Oh, and whoever it is, they need to learn how to use punctuation and basic English grammar.

I work with a lot of people who are not very...tolerant. They have their views and if you disagree then you are wrong or as one guy put it to me once...'one of them' (whatever that was supposed to mean.

Even my own mother, bless her heart has a strong view of gays, lesbians, and even some races. I was raised by this lady and she was a good mother, but her ideals and morals come straight from the bible.

I fear that there will always be intolerant people around causing needless pain and controversy just because something does not 'fit' their views.

Personally, I think that the gay marriage issue should not have ever become an issue. What two (or more) consenting adults do with each other is their business, not the governments, not the church's, and not any single other person's business as long as it does not interfere with others rights.
