I'm trying to put together a "self-interview" for someone who's been kind enough to help promote my latest release. So, what questions should I use? What would you want people to ask you? Or what you would ask me? Or what would you want to ask any writer?

I can run through the usual when did I start, how did I decide, etc., etc., but thought something a little more out of left field might be fun.

Well seeing you write erotica, the first question that would come to my mind being the dog I am is do you write from experience?

Oh. The answer has to be interesting.

Do you ever get sexually aroused by your own writing? And if you do, do you think that helps or hinders your creative process?

Yeah, but see, the answer to that is boring. :)

Well that's when you make shit up! I have a "Laura Lovecraft" website and people who go there (some of them apparently) believe I am a woman. My wife changed my bio to say I have a "partner" not a wife so people might think I'm a woman with a woman. When I get sicko e-mails asking if my incest stories are written from experience she tells me to tell them yes, I had a crush on my brother. I am an only child by the way (biologically anyway)

The wife insists the more I stimulate the sicko's the more hits I'll get. This is what she does with her business degree from BU.

Well Ben, just the other night when I was.... oh you were asking Pennlady. Damn double standard!

No double standard. Fire away! :D

Be careful with that. Gist is if asked that question. my answer is that the wife and I have role played every sex scene I've written. That's where my writing started. We've done weekly role plays for years and I got bored one weekend when she was away on business and I wrote one out.

And to answer what the inevitable question would be, yes we have done incest role plays. What pisses me off is that no one who knows us would be surprised that I would, but people think the wife is this sweet innocent little thing and she makes me keep it that way.

I suppose the answer has to be reasonably truthful, and entertaining would help.

The answer to your questions is I don't know, on both counts. I've never really thought about it.

See this was all just a fluke...

Okay, but the single standard still stands. Your answer has to be interesting.

Fascinating!

Gee thanks, shall I be more explicit? I'll spare everyone and not be. Honestly I believe anyway their is a double standard in erotica. It is hotter when written by women and anything say can be construed as sexy by the drooling men reading it.

Honestly who would the everyday guy want to read a story from someone who looks like me or Selena Kitt?

I'll give you my classic example of double standard in general as far as women being perceived as sexy over men. Now I can dance pretty well, took classes years ago and enjoy it. I get up there and for the most part the women don't care, I mean they may wish there husbands could do it, but they're not like staring or drooling.

An average looking woman gets up there and starts shaking her shit, and not even in rhythm mind you, and all the guys are looking.

A woman writing erotica only has to be mildly suggestive and the guys want to read their stuff, they want to assume it is all from experience. Just my take.

To Penn Lady I think during the interview you should show the pic that you put up in the Riches thread of you dressed as the 1930's hussy.

I'd like to know who inspired you to write. Teacher? Friend? Music? Tell me what draws you to the keyboard to tell your story. Is it money? Boredom? Feel the need to share a life-changing event? Where's your drive, and what is your gut telling you to do?

I couldn't agree with you more, on all counts. All great writers of erotica are women, whether they are women or not. It just makes good business sense.

You should listen to your wife more. She really does have some good ideas.

If I say that it all started just b/c I felt competitive, does that count?

Oh great! She's actually a member here all I need is for her to see that!

Sigh. That's okay she's 10 years younger than and brings home close to six figures (yeah I know and she's with me why?). I guess I'll let her say I told you so.

really though any "sex driven" industry will favor women. I mean what does a female pron start make compared to the male's?

I don't understand how you can *not* think about it. Once an idea gets planted in my head, it does *not* let go. I will play it out with El Chile (DH), i'll play it out when I'm *alone*, and it will drive me nuts until I sit down and write it out. Only after I have applied it to the keyboard do the thoughts finally lose their power and let me think about other things.

I would want to know inspiration as well. Where do you get ideas, do you they pop out at you, or do you seek them out-tv,book,etc. How do you figure your storylines and what keeps you in the story. Is there a particular character that you are most fond of, less fond of? If you could change anything up would you, or do you love and value all of your works.

These are just a few things that I like hearing about other writers/authors. Especially when it comes to their methods.

I'm starting to think that others will think I'm a fraud... hmmm... how can I spin that?

Try being honest and add a little humor if possible. I find it's a lot easier remembering the truth then it is a lie.

I have to agree with those who ask, "How did you get started?" "Where do your ideas originate from?" I believe most stories come from fantasy but something brings those fantasies to life. Watching movies, reading stories of other authors, some life experiences added in.

Just an opinion.
