I understand and agree that stories with minors will be rejected. My question is that I have an idea for a story where the characters are minors in the beginning - she is a high school freshman and he is a senior. No sex takes place while they are minors, but it sets the stage of how they met and how they connected a friends. Nothing romantic or physical takes place while they are minors. They meet up again in college when they are both over the age of 18 and that is when the sex would take place. Would it get rejected because part of it is told while they are minors, even if the sex takes place when they are over 18?

I don't believe so, but I can't guarantee it. Basically, the rule is that minors can't be around, exposed to, or involved with anything sexual. Do you absolutely need the minor scenes? Can it not be done through flashbacks and memories and anecdotes?

Unfortunately, I do need the minor scenes. It sets the tone for how they meet, their basic personalities, and how she develops her crush on him. It doesn't go back and forth in time and no minors witness or are exposed to sexual activity.

On the surface, it sounds like it will pass. So, go ahead and try it. The hedging on that advice is that sometimes a poster says there was no sex by minors in the story and when we drilled down on that it was to find that the poster doesn't consider a hand job sex.

Thanks sr71plt. The stuff as minors doesn't involve a hand job or any physical contact what so ever.

My advice if you absolutely need the minors, you're going to want to create it as its own chapter, and probably put in non-erotic. That would be your best bet!

I don't think that really would be necessary. Either the references will fly in the story as a whole or not.

As long as nobody is anywhere near anything sexual while they're below the magical age, you're fine.

My main character in Steward of the Wood starts out at five years old, and umpteen stories I've written have kids in them as part of the background cast -- even whole gymnasiums full of them.

If it does get rejected the first time, it's probably a half-asleep mistake. Put a note in the "notes" section of the submission saying there are no underage characters involved in sexual situations, and Laurel will be sure to check it closer the next time, when it should pass muster.

It would probably get rejected on it's first pass through the system due to the cursory review given in the process. You could increase your odds of getting it approved the first time by sending a PM to Laurel explaining what you are doing, why you are doing it, why it is important to your story, and how it does not violate the submission guidelines. She will most likely send you a response tentatively approving your concept and reiterating the Lit. guidelines. Then, when you are ready to submit the story, include the same information in note section of the submission form to serve as a reminder, and your then your story should sail through.

I did this once when a story included some background information that someone performing a cursory review might consider in violation of the rules, and I had no problem.

Good luck.

If you went this route (a communication to Laurel), you wouldn't have to send a separate PM. Just put what you want to say in the notes box of the submission. Laurel's the one who would read that, and she'd have the story at hand rather than having to go look for it. I see no reason why should be dinged to go through the preliminary work. She really needs the text in hand to be making any judgments on it.

Could she be a senior in High school and he a sophomore in College? just to work around the age thing

I've had more than a few stories of this type go through without a hitch. I usually add a note in the note section saying that "Although the characters are under age at the start of the story no sex occurs till they are over eighteen."

From what I have seen the 'Over Eighteen' rule is there as a business decision to help the site avoid legal problems. It's a business decision, not one made to hurt good stories. So long as your not trying to skirt around it there really shouldn't be any problems.

Be business like in your approach, follow the rules and guidelines and for the most part the site owner seem to approve good stories.

At the most extreme you submit the story,it gets rejected, two guys in leather show up at your front door and you get horse whipped against the tree in your front yard.

So see no worries.
