In the rating stars data, 4.55 / 110, what does the 110 signify? Is the total number of readers that rated the work, or is it the total number of stars awarded by the readers that rated the work? Just curious.

You have 110 votes so far.

4.55 is the average score

7.5 clicks, now that doesnt necessarily mean that many people have read the story, but how many have clicked on it.

Exactly as the poster above me said. 110 readers were interested enough to rate your story. And you really want more people to rate your story for a couple of reasons that I am too lazy to write at the moment, but might later if you want to hear them ;)

Nope, I'm good. I was just wanting some clarification. The work has been published for one day, so I'm pleased with the responses.

Of what? More than half your work is sporting the big red H. You're doing fine.
I seldom get that many votes, least of all in one day. Some people like my stuff (though one of my favorite stories just dipped below 4.0 😢), but not that many people seem to view them.

Poor me, right? I know it’s not a big deal really. I mostly write for my own pleasure, but who doesn’t also like to be appreciated from time to time?

If you want to boost your number of views (and therefore votes), write standalone stories rather than chapters. Also, you have a habit of writing chaptered stories where the categories are constantly changing, so you are more likely to experience reader attrition than if your categories stay within one category. Also, you can publish stories in more popular categories.

That said, your view numbers are pretty good considering you are not doing any of these things.

Looks can be deceptive. The Kiss is my only chaptered work. The others are just grouped into stories from at college, stories from now and made up stuff.

I write chaptered only, and I've been doing fine with the number of votes so far, especially considering I am writing in categories that are average in popularity at best. I think my avg number of votes is 250+.
My advice would be to write bigger stories, go further into character development and plot. It takes more planning and effort, but I'd say it is also more satisfying.

I'm becoming more focused on quality over quantity (like I have a choice with this one)

That's a pretty good out the gate response. A Vote/View ratio is typically 1:100 - your story is doing slightly better than that, and the score count is now high enough to give you a buffer against one-bombs.

Now that is just plain showing off. I'm never talking about my stats again 🙄
Ironically I rarely talk stats, and for the most part tell people to ignore them. Over time I've heard a few "the people who say ignore them don't have them."
So I flashed the bling this time.

But keep in mind, the story is 9 years old. It still gets high traffic because its been on the all time fav story list for the last few years, it won a contest, and the steady flow of comments keeps it visible.

The reason this story always makes me shake my head is this is the only straight up, no dark back story, no taboo, no train wreck type characters, romance I've written. Some who know that joke maybe I missed my 'calling' here and should right more. I feel the story was just a perfect storm and lightning in the bottle, and I doubt I'll have another get anywhere near this.

But the other point is this was something that when the idea came to me, I was like, no, this isn't me, not my genre, not my wheelhouse. Then I thought of how many times I've told people to follow the muse not the numbers and to write whatever the hell you want, so I did and it panned out.

I understand there are so many factors involved, yet those are still very impressive stats. My story/chapter has been in Scifi all time Hall of Fame since it was published basically, but I can't say that I've seen any more traffic than on my other chapters/stories. I understand that the stuff I write is more or less a niche, and that I will never get a lot of views and comments, but I think I've made my peace with it. I am sticking to my High Fantasy with a slight femdom flavor no matter what :geek: , although I would really love more feedback.
I really wish they would enable real time commenting, or something else that enables more dynamic reader feedback.
I also wish it didn't take so long to get my next chapter published... It's been almost four days in pending and I bet it has set off some flags with that silly software Laurel uses 🎻

Since they started screening comments and they take hours-or more-to appear I've noticed less of them, I think some people don't like the idea they're being screened, or just thing it doesn't work anymore.

It is quite normal in my opinion. You want your comment to appear while the story is still fresh in your mind and you also might want to get a reply from the author. The way it is now, it takes about a day for your comment to get approved and a day for the author to post the answer, assuming he ever does. Few people care for a story that much to bother with all that, so yeah... I believe the users who still comment on stories are either those who understand how much authors crave the feedback and want to support them and encourage them for more stories, or those who really want to spit on it.
