question on piercing "down there"

One of my good friends took me to get my ear pierced for my birthday (a cartilage piercing). I've ALWAYS wanted one, thought they looked really cool. I even went so far as to get those fake ones but found that they hurt after an hour or so. I was a little bit apprehensive getting one knowing that it takes a long time to heal. I wasn't really worried about the pain as I have a high threshold for pain.

So I got it in April and it's healing JUST fine. It's still not completely healed, but it's healed enough that it doesn't hurt when I accidentally brush against it. YAY! Oh ... and it kicks ass ... I absolutely LOVE the way it looks!

Two weeks ago, I bought a niobium CBR with a titanium bead. The ring was a shiny black and the bead was ice blue. It looked SO good! But once I put it in, my ear got infected. :( I guess I can only use real gold in that piercing.

Hey WQ - do you think it's because my piercing isn't fully healed that's why that happened? My piercer was the one that put it in, and she is great... extremely clean and careful. She ordered a titanium hex CBR to see if that will work for me and a seamless white gold ring. Do you think I'll have an allergic reaction to titanium?

I wouldn't get a clit piercing as they look too painful for me. LOL!

Sorry to hijack your thread. ;)

while allergic reactions to niobium are not unheard of, they are extremely rare.
my bet would be that your ear inflamed because you changed the ring and fiddled around with the actual piercing channel - the cartilage can be irritated by the tiniest thing, and the action of taking one ring out and pushing another through could have been enough irritation.
(even changing your shampoo can cause a flare-up!)

'real gold' as you put it, comes in many different grades.
9, 14, 16, 18, 22, 24carat.
but if you use anything less than 18 carat, you will, in all likelihood, experience problems.
this is because gold with a lower carat-weight is also made up of several other metals, including copper, nickol and more, in quantities that can be irritating to someone with a sensitivity. (that's why many women can wear gold, but only if it's of a higher carat.)

the chances of having an allergic reaction to titanium are about the same as to niobium - but if you find that you continue to have problems, perhaps going for a product called 'ZIRCON GOLD' might be the answer.
it looks like yellow gold, but has an almost nil reaction level (it's the product used to coat heart pacemakers, because it's the least likely substance to cause reaction or rejection.)

good luck :rose:

you won't believe this one.

My tattoo/piercing artist was just arrested for first degree murder!

I always thought he was a nice guy, I guess you never know.
I'm thinking maybe I'll try to find someone else to do my piercing.
Warriorqueen where are you again?

i'm in australia :D
maybe just a teensy bit too far away? lol

don't forget, when looking for a piercer, make sure you ask for referals - the other people who have been pierced by that person are your very best guage of how good that piercer is.
and check out the studio - ask to see their sterilisation techniques and equipment, as well as making sure that everything that will be touching your skin comes from a completely sealed and sterile pouch.

you also want to know what their policy is on after-care..... i have a free service for all my clients where they can come to me at any time with any problems, and if it is determined that those problems are NOT caused by my clients, then anything to do with getting that piercing to full healing is free (but they pay for any new jewellery they want to try), even if i have to repierce.
i also have an after-hours emergency number.

you need to be completely satisfied with any answers to all your questions, then you can make an informed choice.

good luck :rose:

thanks again WQ. If I'm ever in Australia I'll be sure to call you.

I may go downtown to the big city. We have one of those very large shops with several peircers and tattoo artists. I know they have a rep for safe, clean and good I just don't know any of them myself.

Take a look at www.bodymod.org I would suggest locating a APP piercing studio... Also go in watch how they handle themselves and talk to them a bit then leave and come back if it suites you.. Also Consider that not all girls should get pierced based on the way their atanomy is... Some piercers will pierce you to make a buck and not consider you...

Also if your piercer who u decide on doesnt offer it, purchase non-iodized sea salt and mix it via 1/4 teaspoon with 1 cup warm water. And soak the piercing area from 5-10mins.

The studio i go to for example autoclaves all jewlrey when it first comes in, then autoclaves it once again before the procedure... U can think of autoclaves as easy bake ovens to disinfect.

Also you may want to ask how often they test their equipment... Again the place i get my piercings test daily.... Also for healing purposes pick an implant grade metal... Surgical steal/titatium...

Implant as the name states, can be in your body your entire life and not make you glow green ;)

Also consider a pair of inner or outer labia piercings ;) Their also quite sexy.

I happen to think industrials are beautiful piercings, I'm not sure why. Wish I could bring myself to get one! I'm not sure how well it would go over at my job, though. :(

thank you to everyone for all the info. I got my horizontal hood piercing done tonight.
it was not so bad, the worst part was taking my pants off.
there was a pinch, and then it was done.

Let me be the first to ask for pictures. ;)

I recommend a horizontal hood piercing!

Why the horizontal and not the vertical? I'm not a woman, but it seems that a barbell would snuggle up against the clit and make more stimulation during sex. I really don't know.

both vertical and horizontal - if done right - can provide stimulation.
horizontal is easier to have done, as in less painful for that split second, and also heals faster.

i find that most women come in to get the horizontal, and then sometime later change their minds and take it out to get a vertical done anyway.
it's almost like the horizontal is a 'trial run'.

personally, i have had both, but repierced mine to be a horizontal.
(yes, i did mine myself, but i am a piercer so it really was no drama for me - not recommended for amateurs to do themselves!)

For me personally it's because I have a barbell in my belly button and it's always flipping around getting caught on stuff. I could imagine walking and the barbell getting caught in my panties or something. I am also changing my belly button to a ring soon.
Maybe eventually I'll switch who knows.

IMHO, clit piercings are ugly.....

taking a beautiful thing like a clit.....ah well to each his/her own...

That is your opinion. My husband loves it and so do I.
It's only just a week old, and it already feels great.
I was surprised that it actually feels good when I wear tight jeans.
