Every now and then I check in the submissions section to see how well the general population are handling my stories: if they are even being read; and I have noticed my overall rating variates from time to time. When it drops from 4.50 to a lower rating what is that supposed to be telling me and what happened to make it drop in points?

The scores are determined by readers voting at the bottom of your story. The average score of all your votes is the "score" listed on your author page.

The only thing special about 4.5 is that when your score is at 4.5 or higher, with at least 10 votes, you earn the coveted H next to it that signifies "Hot"

Other than that, the score on your author page is simply a general barometer of how well people like your story. Compare it to stories in the same category/theme to determine about where you stand ( just judging by the score really doesn't work )

Keep in mind that "trolls" will occasionally rate your story low just for spite ( often without reading it ) this can cause your score to drop, but you may log in at some point and see votes missing, and your score increased. These are called "sweeps" and Lit runs them regularly to remove suspcious votes ( both low and high )

That's a general quickie run-down.

Does anyone know?

Ok, I'm curious-does anyone know how long it takes for a story to be approved after it is submitted? I submitted a story earlier this week (my first) and it still hasn't been approved.

Lately it has been about seven days. The powers that be have a ton of material to get through, so it takes a bit. :) Looking forward to reading it!
