Question from the outside looking in

WQ you sound like someone that lives and enjoy and doesn't let others ruin her party. I like to think I am gonna be that person someday. (as long as vodka isn't involved) By nature I observe a lot more than I talk. I have learned a lot about people just by keeping quiet. I s'pose the reason I asked the question is that tho I have been with a rough crowd at times, in general most of the people I know are kinda like the do unto others crowd. They don't really go looking for trouble. Won't back down one tiny bit but they don't go looking for it. In just about every thread anywhere, hell even if Mother Theresa had started a thread, there would be some folks that cannot stop themselves from an unprovoked attack. Those are the same folks that I was hoping would give an honest to goodness answer.

There's a few here who come into almost every thread I post in, just to give me their version of shit.
From a few words on a screen, those people have decided to hate me, and nothing is going to change that. You need a thicker skin to stay on the GB, that's for sure!
What I don't get, is why those people don't just put me on ignore?
My guess is that I fill some kind of need for them to be snarky and bitchy.

If I happen to have some knowledge base or maybe offer an argument or rationale that someone didn't have, understand or consider, then I feel like there is an outside chance I can actually make a contribution to that person's benefit.

But when I run into people who embrace illogic or refuse to acknowledge their own internal contradictions and then stand on obstinacy as a matter of principle to protect nothing more than the pride of their position, I go off. Those people actually offend me, and I usually show it.

You can literally watch a 9-5 accountant come outta that shell faster than a bottle of rum will do it. It is actually fascinating and that gave rise to my question in the first place. As for my own snarky responses, I am a smartass sometimes. Other times it's just easy silly humor. Kinda was hoping for more responses from some of Lit's nasties but am glad to have read the ones I got.

I am not referring to the political or occasional thread that folks are just expressing themselves, rather I am talking about the threads that devolve into beyond the usual GB snark into plain ugly. My question is why bother? What motivates you? After you have called someone so and so's alt for the nth time and you have told them to go get bent for the zillionth time, what is the purpose? Do you think that perhaps telling them one last time to go get screwed, you (fill in the blank) alt, is gonna make them realize the fallacy of their own opinion? Maybe I am missing the purpose of the GB. And for what it's worth this is a serious question, I am just interested in the thought process. Like lots of folks I look at the train wrecks too. Just wondering is all.

My audience are readers who dont participate in the brawls.

I can only speak for myself. Based on my own experiences. My motivation was the need to defend myself from attacks. Ones that I felt were not really justified. I try to be a calm and easy going person. But I was stupidly drawn into doing the same exact things I am so much against. I had a lot of hidden anger that all came to the surface all at once. I want to ultimately try to make the world a better place. I just realized that what I was doing was not helping anyone and just making me look like an ass. I needed someone perhaps to show it to me and you were kind enough to do that! I guess many people on here are pretty opinionated. I am too. But I also realize I was in the wrong and thus felt the want and need to apologize. Lots of personalities on here. Not all the same. All wanting to be heard. Maybe that is why it gets ugly at times. But differences should perhaps be embraced and not attacked. Maybe some of us should try to do a little more listening and a little less talking. My own self included.
