I must admit that after reading something about a week ago i am now a little confused as to what exactly is 1st person, 2nd person, and 3rd person writing styles.
I never understood what 2nd person was, if it actually existed, but this is what i understood the other two to be.

1st person - is when you write as if it were yourself having these experiences , eg- "The first time i set foot on the station i knew it was a hostile and alien place. There was the smell of death in the putrid air, and if i didnt know any better i would have said this was a smuggler station, not one belonging to the Earth military"

3rd person - i thought was when you write as if you are an invisible 3rd party watching the proceedings, eg- "The first time Major Al'terian set foot on the station he knew it was a hostil and alien environment to him. There was the smell of death in the putrid air, and if he didnt know any better he would have guessed this was a smuggler station, not one belonging to the Earth military"

So can someone please explain to me what 1st, 2nd, and 3rd person writing is to me?
much apreciated.

2nd person is the "you" form, i.e. "You never know what you will find when you walk into a bar late at night ..."
