question about the Nuvaring

hey all
ok, I know that the nuvaring isn't 100% effective, but I just have some questions about it for any women who use it.
my girlfriend and I are definitely not planning on starting a family any time soon but while she doesn't have a problem with me finishing inside her, I just dont know if I trust the ring. I use condoms but is it really ok to finish inside of her while she uses the ring?
I know its both poorly worded and sounds stupid but I'm just curious about anyone else's experiences with it. will she honestly be ok with me finishing inside of her?
thanks

No birth control is 100%...but the ring is as good as any other hormonal method on the market. I used it for 6 months, without condoms, and I didn't get pregnant. Since I get pregnant if a guy looks at me right, and it didn't happen while using the ring, I'd trust it again. The ring is as good as the pill at preventing pregnancy, so if you trust the pill, you can trust the ring. Many times b/c failure is due to user error, so make sure she changes it when she is supposed to!

thanks, honestly I know its a silly question, I'm just highly worried about her getting pregnant and she does everything right.
thanks, I just now need to start to figure out a way to relax I guess

Well, the biochemical major I know, has used it for 3 years now and brags about it all the time.

if you look up "lawsuits against nuvaring" you'll see that yes its as affective a birth control as any, but it also has side affects worse than some.
I suggest you do some research on stuff that hasnt had any recalls.

I suggest looking into the IUD <although i dont believe she can get it without having been previously pregnant.
i've had the IUD for about 4 years and havent even had a scare.

If you're that scared about having an unwanted child, use a condom or other barrier method in addition to hormonal contraception.

just make sure you don't end up with the ring on your cock when you pull out (heard of it, but it never happened when I used it)

However I had serious side effects, lethargy, imsomnia, irritability, migraines, depression, all of which led to me loosing my job. So it was effective to prevent pregnancy but I'll never use it again. I was a grouchy zombie except for the week of my period (when you have the ring out) when I was only mildy grumpy and tired as I usually would be during my period.

Oh thank Gods! I thought I was some sort of freak, especially after hearing my doctor raving about it; I am an emotional wreck since being on it, that I am on the verge of switching back to my other brand. Thank you!

To the OP, most hormonal birth control is, as Shadowann said, something like 99% effective if used properly. Condoms are 98% effective. The only thing that is 100% effective in regards of birth control is complete abstinence.

If she's as meticulous as you said, you two should be fine. Relax and have fun!

I used it for 2 years and had no issues. The only reason I stopped using it was my Dr wanted me to be on a higher dose pill for my bone strength.

Unlike the pill:
- you can take the ring out for 4 hours, put it back in, and still be fine.
- vomit and not have to worry about getting pregnant
- take antibiotics and not have to worry about getting pregnant
- can't forget to take it! (in fact, you can leave it in for an extra week and still be safe)

So in my mind, it's better than the pill for us "human users" who aren't perfect.

I love the ring. There was an adjustment period at the beginning to the hormones. It actually made my cramps worse, but thats not saying much since the amount of time I spend working out has all but eliminated my period pre bc.

The way the ring is supposed to be placed in your vagina should make getting caught on a penis very unlikely. It does seem to be a bit of a surprise for some guys according to discussions from some of my friends and hi.

Again the ring is just as effective as the pill. I've not become pregnant, but like other posters if you're this worried wrap it up.

I was told that antibiotics were still a concern with the ring, however, there is no definitive information on their website re: antibiotics.

I used it for about two years, probably not as intended (which I do not recommend), and managed not to get pregnant.

One time, it did get caught on my boyfriend's penis, and came out, and neither of us noticed. When we had sex again a few days later, he didn't tell me until afterwards that he hadn't felt it.
Well.
After that, I was always sure to check it was in, before and after sex. Obnoxious, but you can't trust anyone but yourself, I guess.
If this happens to you, just go get yourself some Plan B.

Only side-affects I know for sure that were attributed to the ring was cramps, when not on my period.
Maybe not the ring, but... I gained some weight (which I lost after getting off of it). And I'm pretty sure it killed my sex drive.

When I changed sex partners, I switched to a brand of the pill. Yes, you actually have to remember to take it, but I remedied that with making an alarm sound on my phone when it's time. I missed my sex drive.

Also, the NuvaRing is expensive, and a lot of times your health insurance won't cover all of it. The Pill is cheap in comparison.

But it is very convenient. Maybe I'll get back on it in a few years, if it has had some tweaking done.

I was on nuvraring for about two years before getting an IUD and had no issues wiht it and didn't get pregnant. I can't take the pill because it gives me migranes (and i've tried multiple prescriptions) and the patch gave me a rash. I would have continued to stay on nuvraring, but i was heading out of the country and because it needs to stay refrigerated, i didn't know if i could stay on it or not.

i've never been pregnant and do have an IUD, but i know some doc's tend to not like precribing it, depend...he had to give me a prescription to take the day of my appt so he could insert it

I'm not reading though all the responses so I'll just add in my $0.02. I used Nuva Ring for a couple years - no scares at all and I had men finish in me, condom free. It fell out during some rougher sex a couple times but if you read through everything, you're safe if the time it's out is under two hours. Usually I just reinserted it and sometimes I left it out until he finished because that was easier. I did notice that Nuva Ring KILLED my libido, though. Brutally slaughtered is more appropriate; I couldn't get wet so save my life and I just stopped masturbating. I realize that it side effects are different for everyone so maybe she won't "oblige" you sex or become frustrated because her body won't respond to the situation.
