Question about publishing (I'm new on this site)

Hi everyone!

I wrote two chapters of a story and sent them for publishing yesterday. From what I can see on my profile, they have both been accepted and scheduled for publishing, which is great. My problem is that apparently one is scheduled for tomorrow and the other for the day after tomorrow, even though I sent them both at the same time, literally seconds apart.

It's possible that I'm misinterpreting the information that I'm seeing. I'm quite new here. But my issue is that I would like both stories to post at the same time. Or as close to each other as possible. I don't care if they both get delayed as long as they get published together. The reason for this is that Part 1 doesn't contain any sex, it's just introducing the characters and background, so I think I might lose interest from potential readers if Part 2 isn't available when they read Part 1.

Is there any way to contact the admins with this request? I could only find an FAQ page.

Thanks in advance.

You could message Laurel, but I doubt she'd change the publishing dates. There are a lot of reasons for delays in the date, a big one being not wanting to post a huge number of new stories on the same day. There are a lot of stories on here that don't immediately dive into the sex, it shouldn't be a big issue.

I'll third what's been said already: you can ask, but it will be okay either way.

And add that in the future if you want something published together, definitely submit it as one work. It's very common to have several chapters in one submission, and they're likely to do better as one unit than 2.

Also, congrats on getting your first approved so fast! Probably an indicator that your work was more on the polished side of the spectrum, in my experience.

If you want detailed feedback, make a post over on the story feedback board when it goes live. Depending on the category, you may or may not get many comments.

The site will stagger stories, usually a day apart, if you submit several chapters at the same time.

Don't worry about it. Tomorrow they will both be up, so the problem is solved. In any event, in six months time, the publishing date is completely irrelevant.

Curiosity question, how long is each chapter? My guess is, you've got two short chapters that you could have combined.

FYI, a Lit page is around 3750 words, give or take.

Chapters, when submitted at the same time, are generally not published on the same day, but staged day by day in chapter order. Even if you PM'd Laurel, she probably wouldn't see it in time to make a change, even if she was inclined to, so I'd just let it go....

And congrats on submitting your stories :) - and welcome to the Authors Hangout! Stay around :)

First one is 3,800. Second one is just short of 15K. The reason why I split them is because they are completely separate story beats.
Hopefully your first chapter won't end up with a silly page split. Authors have no control over a page break - I've got two stories where there's one sentence on the last page. Annoying, but nothing can be done.

You'll be fine - once they're both published, readers will be able to go from 1 to 2 without a delay.

Back in the day when I submitted stories by chapter, I would purposely submit them all at once, one right after the other, because I wanted them to get published day after day. Others recommend stretching chapters out to milk their time and exposure on the new lists, but that frequently results in a loss of readers anxious to keep reading.

Reader feedback drove me to stop publishing by chapters, and I even asked Laurel to replace my existing chapter stories with the single, longer version of each. The scores increased for every one of them when I did this.

If I was reading your piece as a series, I would be confused at a disparity like that.

Stories over 20k are common on the site and perhaps even more common here in the Hangout. I'd have squashed it together and gone ahead as one story. Many readers prefer that, as @BobbyBrandt suggested. I, too, published some of my early stuff as chapters before I realized it wasn't really necessary.

Huh, that's an interesting insight. You gave me something to think about.
Depending upon category, your feedback results might be different. My chapter stories are almost exclusively published in Novels/Novellas, where readers come expecting longer stories with less interest in immediate sexual arousal.

The other consideration with chapter submissions, regardless of category, is that a lot of readers won't begin reading until they know that the story is complete and all of the chapters published. There are too many unfinished stories on this site that people have been disappointed by.
