Question about posting pictures.

How come sometimes they come up as links and other times they are in the thread?

I think it depends on how you upload them. If you upload from your computer, it shows up as a link. If you use the vb code and hyperlink to a web site, it shows up in the thread.

Manu changed the uploads to show up as links to try and speed the board up.

Even when I upload from my computer, the pics show up as links, yet others will show up as regular pictures. It's weird.

when you post a pic using the vB img code it doesn't upload the pic to the Lit server.. it displays the pic from the net addy where it is posted.

when you post a pic from your puter to Lit's server it is displayed as a link now so the pic isn't uploaded each and every time someone opens the thread... only when they click on the link... helps to not slow down the server... i think it was a great ideal!

OK... if you upload a picture from your computer that means Literotica is storing it in their database. Per the thread/discussion/request for comments that Manu had posted as a sticky for a week or so they are doing everything they can to try and speed up things around here.

The feeling is that the constant accessing of pictures in the database is slowing down the server. Therefore, instead of automatically loading them you are given a choice of whether you want to view them or not - hence the link.

HOWEVER - if you use the IMG function to post a LINK to a picture then it does show up on the thread. This is because a link is doing nothing more then accessing the picture on another web site and does not require the use of the Literotica servers or database.

Thank you all for clearing this up for me. Frankly, I prefered the picture in the thread, but I understand the need to conserve space on the server.

you could always get yourself a lil generic page from somewhere like geocities. store your pics on their server and link to them from here. that way they will be displayed in the thread, won't slow lit down, and you can post them other places without having to upload each time.

Hey! That was me! How did I get logged out?

Is there some kind of time limit where you're logged out automatically if you aren't moving around in Lit? It seems to happen if I leave my computer on and go away for a bit, then come back and post something.

Time limit is 15 min. Weird Harold explained it somewhere else and said after 15 min of no activity, you're logged out.

Why can I download and save some picures from the picture board and some will not save. When i open the file I have nothing
