I've tried to put a series of asterisks (10 or 12 or so) to indicate the end of a scene, and the stupid computer, obviously can't me me...right? Turned them into a heavy thick dark series of dotted lines all the way across the page.

And these lines, well, they've gotten a life of their own now, can't be killed. I tried. Can be moved to a degree, eg to end of next paragraph, and then the next paragraph etc untill they drop off the end of the story but thats labourious, unless there it here is another of the basteds waiting to push them back up the page.

Can anyone give me some clues to get rid of them. Please.

It is called auto-formatting. Usually if you simply click the un-do button immediately then it will recognise that was not your intention and allow you to proceed as you wish.

I had the same problem. You can kill this irritating dotted line by deleteing the line break at the end of the paragraph, then re-spacing.

I found the best way to avoid the bar appearing in the first place (I tried turning off all the auto-formatting and it still happened :( ) is to limit you asterisks to 3 or 4 max and force them to centre.

If you submit your story as text pasted into the submission form you can adjust your section breaks there and add html "<center>...</center>" tags to centre it up.

Good luck

In MSWord go to the Tools drop down menu, click Auto Correct, go to the Auto Format As You Type tab, in the second block of options "Apply as you type" uncheck Border lines, click OK, close MSWord. If you are asked when you close MSWord click yes to save the Normal.dot - no more silly lines.

If you ever want them back, put the tick back and they will return.

Malheureusement, M.Drablézien, je ne sais pas si c'est le même chose pour l'MSWord française.

Merci for your advice, tried it though, and if anything its just encouraged the little fuckers to breed!

Back to manually delete the spaces between paragrahes, and push them off the edge of the world.

Sigh!

If that was my advice you tried, then you have a corrupt version of MSWord, or the Australian version is different from the US and UK versions. I tried it on both of those again and it works perfectly for me. (God, I sound like Microsoft support now!).
