My skin! My poor skin that is used to the moisture of living on the southern California coast!

It is so dry here that when I take my bras out of the washer, they air dry in like 20 minutes. I'm not kidding.

So, I've solved the body skin part by using baby oil in the shower. That's worked well. My face however is really dry. I don't think that baby oil is the answer there.

Should I use night cream day and night?

I know, it's not earth shattering. Indulge me.

I use Avon skin so soft moisturizing antibacterial gel.

A quick look in the latest Avon brochure found a half-dozen moisturizing creams, lotions and bases -- most clones of similar products that can be found in the beauty aids section of most any store.

Oddly enough, the very first thing in the skin care section of the brochure was "Rare Rubies Shower Gel with Moisturizing beads."

OMG, I got answers! Thank you WH and raindancer.

A humidifier would probably help a lot, hun? I should look into getting a whole house one fitted to the heating unit.

"Rare Rubies Shower Gel with Moisturizing beads."
I'll have to get me some of that. ;)

Personally

I creme rinse and wrap my hair in toilet paper before retiring for the night. OH, and thickly lubricate my hands in vaseline and cover them with cotton gloves. Your husband sounds like SUCH an understanding man. I'm sure he'll acquire a taste for it once he feels JUST how soft your hands are, and sees your hair shine with moisture.

Rubyfruit,

The Product I found worked on a dry face was SPA essentials Rainforest Refresh Hand & Body lotion (Earth Science). It's made to deliver heavy duty moisture to your skin, but is not oily or greasy, so it is great for the face. www.earthscienceinc.com is where the company has its web home. Another thing to remember is Sunscreen, even on cloudy days, because the rays of the sun can do alot of drying to the exposed skin. One other thing, using a nondrying facewash instead of soap will reduce alot of drying. Any peeling face masks, toner, astringent, or other harsh face products should either be removed from your skin regimine, or cut down on the use of. Hope this helps. :)

Hi Ruby,

I live in a pretty dry climate and I have dry skin, too.

For me, using a heavy night cream during the heat of the day usually makes me break out, as the cream tends to trap the sweat (although we all know women glow, not sweat!) beneath the surface of my skin. Instead, I use a light day cream with a high SPF and also spray myself with one of those Evian atomisers.

Stay cool :)

Crabtree and Evelyn carry a line called Swiss Skin Care, very mild and rich in emollients. I used the body cream, but they do make a facial moisturizer as well.

I'd recommend a whole house humidifier that is a stand alone unit as opposed to a furnace mounted one. I've never had a furnace mounted one that didn't need serviced constantly. Also, lots and lots of water, lots of vitamin E, and a light moisturizing cream during the day. I tend to stay away from multi-purpose moisturizers except as a treatment once a week or so.

I didn't know that such a thing exsisted. Would a heating/air company be able to tell me about it?

Ruby,
I live in So Calif - near the coast. We had the Santa Anas blow through here yesterday and now I feel like I have the skin of an alligator! Not to mention the slightly chapped lips!

I just keep putting on more moisturizer and lip balm, but I think I'm fighting a losing battle. I'll be glad when some of the humidity returns.

Good luck!

Thank you all for your responses. I appreciate them all.

Dumbslut, I like your ideas, but I'm not sure how I will effectively be able to give my husband a hand job in the gloves.

LDF, thanks for the link. I'll check it out.

Makeme, I agree about the heavy cream during the day. I used to use the water spray when I worked in an office and it did do wonders.

Kitten, thanks - that sounds like it's right up my alley.

Guru, can I bring my kids?

Nasty, you're just plan nasty. ;)

The mention of Santa Anas make me home sick. :(

Hell, yes! I'll have my 14 year-old babysit them... He works cheap, because he doesn't know any better!

Cool. So, we can hit the night life while he's sitting the kids?

I'm so there!

Sorry Ruby. I live in Minnesota and can barely recall what dry regions are like. (Parents are from Arizona). In Minnesota I am always wet. Wow! Well yes actually I am!! I don't think it has to do with the climate, however. :D
