I'm a newbie here and I'm about to publish my first story. I've been writing a LONG story about a young woman who becomes sexually involved with an older couple she lives with. In the first chapter, she ends up having sex with the wife and with a house guest. In the second and third chapters, the husband gets involved and then it evolves into more orgies/group sex stuff.

What category would this fit into? I'm not sure if Novels/Novellas is the right category as I'm not sure if the story will be of novel length by the time I'm done. Then again, it might, as I haven't written it all yet.

Should I just post the chapters in the categories that fit the chapters best? The chapters will be linked, so those who'd want to read the whole thing would still be able to find them. Any advice?

You can put long stories into any category. Novels and Novellas is more for stories that don't fit other categories.

It's best to put the whole story into one category so you aren't losing your audience between chapters From what you've said, it sounds like a Group story.

Could also be Mature, given there appears to be an age gap.

I'd post in Mature over Group, any day of the week - Group has been tumbleweeds for a series I posted there.

The question is - how long is it? How many words? I used to think 20,000 was a lot, but that’s just a good length.

"Mature" is a great category, especially if there are some romantic aspects to the story.

Mature and Group both work.

Although technically it might be more fitting in group, the age gap does make it fitting for mature and that category is a lot more widely read than people think and its a generally friendly crowd there.

Oh, thanks for this. The age gap is about 15 years, so maybe Mature would be better.

You could publish them separately, especially IF:

[1] You end the first and second parts in dramatic ways that make people want to read on, and

[2] You give them titles which tie them together in some way: 'Ms X's first encounter with aliens', etc etc.

Good luck, Dicky

Generally speaking, if a story is 40,000 words or fewer, I'd advise publishing it as a single story, rather than as chapters, in whatever category BEST fits the overall erotic them of the story.

Rusty is right: some new authors don't quite realize what a "long" story is at Literotica. The reality is that there's a very high tolerance at Literotica for long stories, so you're better off publishing it in the right category than in Novels, because the Novels category doesn't get as many views most of the time.

Yours is 60,000, you say, so you could break it up into 3 chapters and I think it would do just fine. Generally, though, I think it's better to publish all three chapters in the same category, so if chapter 1 fits better into mature and chapter 2 fits better into group, this might not work.

If the age gap is a recurring theme throughout the story and part of its erotic appeal, then I'd publish it in Mature. It's a good solid category and stories there often get well received.
