Your president has to be born in the USA; our monarchs have to be descended from former royals and Protestants. Neither condition follows common sense.

We have altered our rules for example in the Glorious Revolution of 1668 when we invited William of Orange to become King, replacing a King who was actually Catholic.

Those who are in line for the Throne are known from their birth.

One of my friends, when born, was 33rd in line to the Stuart monarchy. Since then, many people higher up the line have had children and grandchildren so he is now about 257th. But neither mattered because the Stuarts were never going to come back as almost all of them , like my friend, are Catholic.

Her Majesty has had the UK people's support for her whole 70 years. Her father King George VI was also liked. King George V? Not so much. He was too insistent on formality. King Edward VII - the jolly monarch and people forgave his collection of mistresses - if they knew.

Queen Victoria? When she was mourning for Prince Albert she was almost invisible but people appreciated her in the last decades of her life.

Except for King Edward VIII who was too pro-Nazi as well as marrying unfortunately, UK people have been generally happy with their monarchs through the 20th century and into the 21st.

We wouldn't want politicians as our Heads of State. I can't think of any since Winston Churchill who could carry that role without controversary.

No. He is the Prime Minister. The Queen is our Head of State.

The Prime Minister is described as 'First among Equals. That's why he can be replaced by his party without a general election. The Prime Minister has to be approved by our Head Of State. Except in Australia where the Governor-General (the Queen's representative) removed a Prime Minister (and caused a constitutional crisis) no British monarch has done that for a very long time.

The person with the largest majority in the House of Commons is automatically approved.

The Prime Minister does not have the powers of a US President. Some have behaved as if they did but they have only power if supported by their MPs. Thye have different powers which a US President might like for example appointing and replacing Ministers without any need for ratification by anyone else but generally a US President can do far more.

When Prince Charles becomes King, his wife will have a different title instead of her current one of Duchess Of Cornwall.

Normally she would be made Queen Consort, and that is what Her Majesty asked for last night. As such, when King Charles is crowned, she would be crowned at the same time.

But there is some public resistance to Camilla being Queen because of her role in the divorce of Princess Diana. If so, the Duchess of Cornwall would become Princess Consort. It wouldn't make any practical difference to the role she would assume as the King's wife but would recognise her contribution to the work of the Royal family if she becomes Queen Consort.

Either way, will she be crowned in the same ceremony?

The Queen has asked for Camilla to be made Queen Consort. The UK government has to decide what title she will assume (as well as what name Charles will take as King. He needn't necessarily be Charles III. He could be king under one of his other names).

I've heard Charles Philip Arthur George favors George VII. That would recall his grandfather, who is fondly remembered. Philip is too Greek, Arthur would be too pretentious, and Charles . . . is not an auspicious name for British kings.

Tbh, the accusations of racism didn't bother or shock me (any upper class look down their noses at everyone else). What shocked me was paying attention to Harry, Charles, Andrew and Ann after the Prince Harry/Andrew interviews, and realizing how daft they all are. (my mom finds William to be daft too which is covered by his arrogance, I don't tbh)
