I'm going to a convention in 2 weeks time and i still haven't bought a fancy dress costume. I want to wear a specific style costume (Black Canary from DC Comics) but finding the bodysuit is so hard and when i find them they are so expensive! :( I have about £20 ($31) to spend on something and most leather/ PVC isn't cheap.

I have found a catsuit and i was thinking about cutting the arms and legs off, but....

does PVC rip when you cut it? I don't want to spend money on something then completely mess it up.

I'm not sure what PVC is but when I made my son's costume I needed to know if I cut it would it rip. A better sewer than me told me to cut it where it wasn't seen. The foot is what I used to see if it would rip or unravel. Mine didn't. I hope it works out. I just sewed the cut up.

Its kinda like a latex rubber plastic. I originally wanted a leather bodysuit but i cant afford a few hundred pounds for a costume.

For that little bit of money I doubt you'll find one.
But you could afford a tube of black body-paint

Most pvc has a fabric backing and so it won't rip.

I'd cut it slightly longer than I needed and fold it over like you were making a seam. Then use crazy glue to keep the "seams" there making it even less likely to rip.

And WQ has a point. Most PVC clothing is cheaply made. Maybe only made to be worn one time.

I had the thread go on a pair of shorts after one night out.

I might only wear it once anyway for this convention. Im not really the kind of person who walks around in public in pvc so if i dont like it it will only be a one time thing anyway :)

yes well the point I was trying to make was not to do those straight leg bend over moves to pick up something off the ground in your 5" hight peeler shoes. You'll risk splitting the seam in the crotch.

Don't say I didn't warn you.

haha ok :) well i was going to chop the legs off anyway. thats what i was scared of ruining. All the legless suits were also crotchless or tit-less and i dont think i'd go out the house like that! ;)

You're trying to do Black Canary for $30? What about that outfit makes you think it's PVC? That's not the material I would have picked, but if you really want that look- here's a cosplayer tip. Use upholstry fabric. It's thicker and durable, but usually pretty cheap as opposed to fashion fabric. But I would have went with something like a poly/spandex blend anyway.
