(sometimes I feel this is the only time I post here..lol) My computer is acting up. Not sure what it's problem is, so maybe someone can help. I will be going along fine, on the net..and all of a sudden windows start opening up all over my page. They start at the top left hand corner..work their way down to the bottom right hand corner, then start up at the top in the middle and work their way down and to the right. They over-run my computer 'till it locks up. (I am guessing it's like the link someone posted a while back that caused all the problems) I have a firewall, and I have ran two virus scan programs... which show no virus. Anyone have a clue?

Well, it depends on where you are surfing, but I think you may be suffering from delayed popups. These are popups that come from a particular website, and they are not so cleverly programmed to wait a little while after you leave the site, then they start popping up. Or there are various other schemes that employ similar methods.

Two suggestions:

1) Get a popup stopper. I prefer to have this builtin to my browser. I use Crazy Browser which is a shell around Internet Explorer, that has a popup filter builtin, along with tabbed window browsing and a number of other nice features. But Mozilla and some other browsers also have similar features - they just aren't as fast or as compatible. Look into Chimera if you have a Mac. Crazy Browser, Mozilla/Chimera and many popup stoppers are free.

The only problem with popup filters is that sometimes, with websites that have popup windows, the browser will seem to lock up for a little while the popup tries to display. It eventually recovers though. I believe it has to do with the ********** function some websites use to do this.

2) Get AdAware from LavaSoft and run it periodically. This will remove Adware software and cookies from your computer.

I have AdAware and run it every so often. I don't have to be on a specific site for this to happen, it can happen while I am on the desk top...or trying to look at email.

Well, like I said, some sites employ various devious schemes with delays or cookie triggers to make it seem like it is some other site that is causing the popups.

It might be helpful if you could post more info about what is in the popups, what their title is, are they web browser popups, etc.

Do you have gator or any other form filler?

They are bad about pop ups.

I believe they say Micosoft Explorer.... will let you know for sure when it happens again.
