To celebrate the fact that i posted my 1000th post yesterday, and it is my birthday tomorrow i thought i'd start my own thread.

Those of you who have made the mistake of asking will know that goddamhippy and i are at the very messy start of a DIY build project - which is likely to take around 6 months or so to complete, if the wind is in the right direction! I seem to have been moaning about it on almost every thread i've been on recently, so i thought i'd keep all my build moans to this thread.

If you have any moans you'd like to share - or any helpful, or at least distracting, suggestions you'd like to share please join in. Just one thing though - moans are fine, a gentle poke, but no bitchiness please - i'm a happy girl, and i want this to be a happy thread.

*brings in flowers and the B-day cake*

Congrats and happy B-day hun. *hugs*

Allow me to get things started by saying hello and wishing your project success. ^_^

A quick moan to start off with!!

In an attempt to both save money and be kinder to the environment we are reusing and reclaiming as many build materials as we can. Great idea - hmmm - have you ever actually reclaimed a brick - it involves making sure that all the old cement or mortar or render is removed so that you have a square, useable brick again. We have around 400 bricks to clean......

I love bricks....................yeah, honest - i really do!

I must remember to order birthday cake for you tomorrow :).

Are you going to escape from the dust for a while to celebrate?

Hahahaha, hmmm - well i get a lie in - does that count?

Nice place you have here, and I wish you many happy returns for tomorrow :rose:

I've tried to keep it simple and dust free - i don't have anywhere else that is right now! Welcome, please feel free to pop in any time!

No, you need more than that. Have :rose: in advance :).

I had to laught about the bricks though. I know we discussed it before, but for some reason it really amuses me :D.

Happy to amuse!!! Lol. And thank you for the rose!
Like the new av by the way! Do you have a supply of cello themed naked women lined up??
;)

Sounds like a great project, and kudos to you for using reclaimed materials. It's kind of a hassle, but your place will have more soul - and you'll have some great stories to tell when it's all over. Best of luck to you.

You're welcome :kiss::).

Thank you. I have a few, but they're notoriously difficult to track down, so if you find any, please let me know :).

Thank you - and i absolutely agree. We will know every brick in the new part of the building, and know how it all went together. Struggling with the hassle at this point though - it's tough when faced with a large pile of bricks to clean!! Managed to break a brick layers trowel on the job today! Lol. x

I'll be sure to keep my eyes open! I'm sure i'm bound to fall over one or two at the reclamation site!!

Bricks do not yield easily... just ask the big bad wolf. Sounds like you could use a good massage and/or a stiff drink. ;)
