It's the sugar in the fruit that's the problem. Yeast feed on the sugar and eventually can cause infections in places that weren't meant to house sugar.

Our cat doesn't eat crap like hot dogs, so that's pure human food in our household.
Back in my poorest student days when J and I still didn't live together I always told everybody that J's cat eats better than I do. It was true. The cat did and does eat chicken breasts and hearts and freshwater fish with the occasional shrimp treat.
