I think I just pussified my 23 year old son by telling him there was no way in hell I was going to let him hitchhike to his sisters house 6 hours away. Instead I bought him a Greyhound ticket, no thank you for mom, just grumble grumble grumble I'm a grown man.

So as a kid he idolized his uncle who is/was more of a rambler. Never knowing where he'll be from one day to the next. Always hitchhiking his way around the US. They share the same Birthday as well. 20 years ago hitchhiking I didn't care what his uncle did, but this day and age? Have I become one of those parents pussifying their children? Your thoughts on hitchhiking?

The answer is yes...

...but, hey - it's all about you, not the 23-year old man you need to still treat as a child.

Ffriggin'fs...

Ugh I have become that which I despise!

LOL I figured as much but at least I'll sleep better.

Look on the bright side...

...you've been instrumental in molding some woman or man a good wife.

Pshhhh....I don't believe that. It's freaking cold out there he's never hitchhiked anywhere and there's lots of crazies out there nowadays.
Besides if the end of the world does come, I want my son home safe and sound when son in law brings him back for the end of the world
family get-together, so we can all die together or survive together haha.

Hitchhiking really is a stupid idea.

Nowadays anyways. Else I've turned into my grandparents who told me the same thing. Cept I only did it when I was a teen (young and neive) and only to the next city or few miles away to the beach.

mother are supposed to worry. he could still hitch but he's taking the ticket because he loves you. you've raised a guy who knows when it's best just to humour the woman... result!

Well, my mom used to hitchhike all the time, but it was different back then. If there were crazy murders, they weren't well publicized.

That's what I told him, please just take the ticket or I'll worry the whole time you're thumbing it. Fine mom, he says.

Then about 15 minutes ago he just came into my room and gave me a big hug. :warm fuzzys:

He does love me.

that's not bad then... he needed to lean on you for a bit.

He just hates having to do so. Me, not so much. It's nice having him back home, even if I now have to deal with an ADHD grandson and ADHD son in one house LOL.

See, that's how I feel also. From the 60s-80s I think people were more free spirited and friendly. Shit these days you have to be a bit more cautious and careful.

I used to hitchhike back in the 70's when I didn't know any better. And it wasn't all that safe then. The last time I hitched a ride, I got groped by an old truck driver. That was my last time.
