"Kae! Five minutes and then you have to meet one of your fans before the set tonight. Remember, you have to spend time with him before and after the show tonight. It's good promo. Don't be bitch and fuck it up!" called out the band manager Antonio, a big muscular, bald Latino. He was a blunt man who wasn't afraid to say his piece and kept a firm hand on the band. He didn't care if they went crazy as long as it didn't interfere with their image or performance. Which sounds like it would be easy to do anything they wanted. But that wasn't true. Antonio ruled over them just as easily as he ruled over his seven kids. Yeah. Seven. When did he ever have the time? Was the one question the band asked each other behind his back.
"Yea yeah! I heard you the FIRST time, asshole! I'll behave--maybe." Kae muttered as she looked over her getup for the show that night. The shoulder length black hair had bright, electric blue streaks layered into the top and sides. Most of the hair was caught up in spiky buns on top of her head with little strands of hair sticking out of them. Spiky bangs fell across her forehead and two long locks of hair curled to caress her small chin. Fake eyelashes gave a dramatically sultry look to her large brown eyes. Silver eyeshadow blazed across her eyelids and dark blue eyeliner made her eyes look even bigger on her small heart shaped face. Alienia lipstick painted her rosebud lips a glossy red.
The red straps of the fancy crisscross push up bra showed beneath a small black rock shirt. The shirt lost its sleeves, most of the neckline has been altered into a sharp v drop and the bottom cut away to stop three inches below Kae's bust. A fine gold chain belt hung just above her belly button. Dark blue cargo pants hugged her slim hips rumpled down to black leather boots with several chains and five inch heels that made the petite 5'2" lead singer of Careless Abyss average height.
None of it was what she would wear on a normal day but she had to look a certain way when she hit the stage. It's not like the fans of Careless Abyss wanted to see Kae as a normal person who looked like she could be fifteen without even trying. Never mind that she hasn't been that for over ten years. The bliss and curse of having a graceful Japanese mother. She wished for the billionth time that she had also gotten a little extra height from her towering barbarian Caucasian father. This way lies madness! Which ironically was the name of one of their hit songs and the very true fact of life. Her parents didn't care that she wanted to pursue music. They just cared about the fact that she did it dressed like a delinquent. Apparently, dressing this way also will lead to her doing lots of drugs and drinking herself into oblivion. Her eyes rolled reflexively at the thought.
As she was putting a slash of red on her eyelids to give her eyes a wicked look, the door to the small dressing room opened. "You can meet Kae before she goes on stage. We'll go ahead and take a few photos now and then you can have some time to talk to her after the show. Here she is. Hey, Kae, come meet one of your fans. This is Adam Black."
"Hold your horses, Antonio. I'm almost done putting this shit on my face. Hi, Adam Black. I'm Kae." she said as she turned to meet the fan. Antonio ran a contest on the local radio stations and the winners of the comps got a meet and greet, photos, signed autographs, Careless Abyss shirt and CD. Her eyes settled on a chest. Even with her boots on, she still had to tilt her head back to meet his eyes. Her eyes widened slightly as she got her first look at Adam. Holy crap! He's beautiful! Are guys suppose to be beautiful? She blinked and scrambled to regain her stage persona. She turned away abruptly and moved over to the couch. "Let's do the photo shoot. We only have a few minutes before I have to hit the stage."
Taylor, their resident computer geek and photographer, asked Kae if she wanted to do the standard handshake, couple shot or hug. Kae glanced back at the fan and a shiver went down her spine when their eyes met again. Her imagination went wild and she could see them making out passionately. Tearing off each others clothes to feel naked skin and pushing to--Kae gulped. Happy to know that no one could see her face the moment. "I have an idea, let's do something new."
Kae turned to look at Adam and a part of her was thrilled by how he towered over her. She pulled the chair away from the make up counter and asked Adam to sit in it. Once he was settled in the chair, she sat down in his lap with her legs over one chair arm. She wrapped her arms around his neck and shoulder. "Taylor, get a shot of me kissing his cheek. It'll look great on the website and perfect to put on Twitter. Tell me when."
Her body slid up his chest as she wiggled for purchase in his lap and she pulled herself up to blow a wicked breathe of hot air in his ear before kissing his cheek with her red glossy lips. She held the kiss for Taylor as he snapped several shots of them from various angles. She hoped that he couldn't feel her heart thundering in her chest. She's never felt this about anyone before. After what seemed like an eternity, when all she really wanted to do was kiss the stranger's lips and feel her breasts crushed against his chest, Taylor finally said he was done.
Kae burst out of the seat and flashed a wicked grin at Adam. "Thanks! That will look great online. I'll see you after the show." She slid her eyes away from actually looking at him. For once, she was glad she had to wear a crap ton of makeup. No one can see her blush staining her face. She glanced at the mirror, touched up the lipstick and rushed off to the stage.
"About time, Kae! Come on, we're fuckin' on." nagged Ghost, the lead guitarist and insatiable player of their group. Kae flipped him the finger before she bounded out on the stage and grabbed the mic.
"Are you ready, Brimstone? You ready to ROCK? Careless Abyss is here to rock the fucking house DOWN tonight and we'll take all you fuckers with us!" she shouted out to the audience. Ghost and Chance threw down a rapid, heart pounding intro to one of their hit songs Falling.
Kae let it all fall away from her as she wrapped herself up in the performance. The only thing that mattered was the band and the stage. The music and the song. Even the audience didn't matter for who they are except as an extension of the music and the response to their siren's call.
