Punk rock, Hardcore, Oi!, Garage, Metal, Ska, Indie (and whatever else) Discussion and Anarchy thread

The Troc was a good venue.

I always liked it. Saw Blur there when I was home on leave in 1991. Also recall seeing Gas Huffer and Riverboat Gamblers there.

We were supposed to see Stalag 13 a few weeks ago, with Fang and they were a no show.
Riverboat Gamblers rock. Kinda lost track of them but I think they are still at it. There were a collection of TX punkish bands that were a lot of fun. Golden Boys and even Roky Erikson. Some others followed like Bobby Jealousy(RIP), A Giant Dog. Bunch of others I cant think of at moment.

For sure. They were sorta a 90s garage band and hard rock thing. My friend who owned gearhead magazine and records got me heavily into the whole 90s garage rock revival.

We saw giant dog last year. They opened for Spoon in Burlington VT. They were excellent. And hot fuckin singer.

Nice. Sabrina from A Giant Dog has another band called Sweet Spirit. A little more pop influence. Her old band, Bobby Jealousy, was my favorite of three. Unfortunately her and ex, Seth, broke up and band ended. He has since passed. He was a damn pop genius. Had band called Brother Machine if you can ever find it or his solo stuff. He was really great producer and helped a ton of Austin bands.

I had heard of giant dog before seeing them. I never knew much about them.

Appreciate you filling me in on it. She is fuckin hot.

I will def check out Bobby Jealousy and Sweet Spirit. Or Brother Machine?

Any recommended songs?

46 years ago, Sham69 released their most successful single, Hersham Boys. It reached number six on the UK singles chart.

July 27th, 1979

one of my faves.

Love the lyrics:

Dick eye Chavvie
It's the Mudtown Slosher!
That's right guv'nor
Jack The Lad

Since the only rules of punk rock were that there were no rules, let it rip. Discuss your favorite bands, genres, experiences, venues, sub, genres, whatever.

The music was fast, loud, moody, droney.

The fights, the fun, the adventure…

Don’t care who’s punker than who, fake pinks, posers, doesn’t matter to me. Your all welcome here, motherfuckers .

There are enough threads with just songs, but feel free to put them in here too.

Weekends in New Jersey in the 80s. Tons of venues. City Gardens, NY South, Court Tavern in NB, a bunch of American a legion, VFWs, The Polish American club in Manville.

And then CBGBs on Sunday’s for the hardcore matinees. $5 for 3 bands usually.

What were/are your experiences, what bands were/are great. Maybe this’ll catch on… maybe it won’t.
Hey ! What part of Jersey are you from ? Sounds like we may have been there around the same time. Grew up near New Brunswick. Hung out at Court Tavern, The Melody, CBGB, Max's, Mudd Club, etc.
Remember seeing Talking Heads and Blondie before they had record contracts.
Can't tell you how many times I saw The Ramones. David Peel and the Lower East Side. Television. I was fortunate enough to see one of Sid Vicious' last performances at Max's Kansas City.

And a year earlier, July 27, 1978. Xray Spex broke into the U.K. top 40 with their 2nd single, Identity.

It would go on to peak at #24.

I was born and raised in Hunterdon County. Still live there. We were, and I still am a cow punk. A hillbilly punk.

In 1986 and 87, I lived right next-door to the melody on French Street. (And across the street from another dance club- the Roxy - it was fucking loud living there!) We didn’t go to Rutgers , but we moved down to New Brunswick to party, meet girls and do what dumb 19 and 20-year-olds do… I could walk easily to the court Tavern and Cheap thrills record store.

I saw the nihilistics at the mudd club once. I think it was the only time I was over there.

Pyramids club offa Avenue A.

My wife is 10 years older than I am, and she dated a rock photographer and met a lot of those guys. She met Sid vicious at a party. (I would’ve been 12 years old at that time. 😂)

On 27th July 1973 the New York Dolls released their first album.

Nothing would ever be the same again…

Personality Crisis - from Don Kischner’s Rock Concert. Saturday nights at midnight.

I’m a day late to the funeral.

Remembering Sinéad Marie Bernadette O'Connor, who died 26th July 2023. 💔💔💔

Maybe not all that punk rock, I always appreciated her honesty… which is very punk rock. And so is this song.

What a week for releases.

Released on July 26, 1979. 46 motherfuckin years ago.

RIP Mensi - he was the real deal… no two ways about it.
