It was snide no matter why it was posted. I don't buy the "haha" interpretation.

If "I know it all by osmosis or something" amateur writers want to screw up doing their own thing is one thing; advising other writers to do it as well is quite another.

Hey, not all of us are professionals. If I recall correctly I only said what I would usually do in situations like that, I didn't say I thought it was correct. Also, I think part of the confusion is that I went with the UK style rather than the US style. Thanks for the list of style guides though, I'll definitely take a look at the Chicago one to make sure I give proper editing advice in the future.

Chicago is definitely colder than New York. Much colder and snowier winters. Both great cities to visit. You should try to see New York someday if you haven't. I haven't been there for a while and am itching to get back.

And it's not geographical location, it's the university that happens to publish the guide that determines the guide's name. Here, University of Chicago and Columbia University (which is in Manhattan). Same as with England's Oxford Guide.

The Oxford Guide was no use to me when driving there years ago, because it didn't show all the one-way streets.

I was up all night researching all about this so called Oz (another ploy to lull us into associating them with the good Wizard). Anyway, there's a guy on Facebook who's done all the research, and all that stuff about it being a British penal colony was smoke and mirrors...not to say all of them shouldn't be in a penal colony. But the real truth, as it turns out, is that the British set up an outpost of spies, terrorists and trained killers just for the purpose of one day infiltrating our own sacred ground and taking over. They just couldn't accept the fact they were beaten by our founding fathers it seems.

Thankfully we have Facebook and YouTube now so the real truth can be told Too bad though, I think EB has been a spy so long he's starting to see the real truth and the lies he's been fed his whole life...we should try to help him see the light
