Hi, why is publishing held up so long? I've now been waiting for 8 days for a story to publish. Delays such as this are unacceptable, especially if you're publishing a series. Sort it out.

Sorry, we'll get right on it.

Actually, we won't, because no-one here has any control over the publishing side. All we can tell you is that yes, it can be frustrating. New authors tend to be scrutinised more closely than others. Try dropping Laurel a line, perhaps she can speed things up for you.

We have no control over the time it takes to approve, so no one here will be "sorting it out".

You need to send a PM to Laurel and ask her to check on your submission.

My stories usually take 2-3 days minimum to be approved. Incest stories may take longer, as may stories that require extra scrutiny. A recent story I published in Incest took eight days. As others have said, be patient and pm the site admin Laurel if you’re worried. It may speed things, it may not. But this is her site.

Thanks. I was ranting, not asking anyone here to actually sort it! Who is Laurel? I haven't been able to find any info on how to raise the issue

Laurel is the site owner. You can get in touch with her by clicking on the little envelope in the upper right-hand corner of your screen and typing "Laurel" in the "Recipients" field.

Laurel is the only person who reviews submissions and decides what gets published and when. You probably won't hear back from her, but that doesn't mean she hasn't seen your note.

Once a story hits seven days I would send a Private message to Laurel who is the only person here who approves stories.

There's been a glitch going on where stories are sitting in pending and she can't 'see' them.

Here is the link and click start conversation

Your other option would be to delete and re-submit, but then you're back to ground zero so I would try her first

That's great. Thanks very much

Laurel is an owner and the sole submissions editor for the site. See that envelope at the top right of this page? It's the site message system. Send a message on your issue to Laurel (that's the account name to use).

Thank you so much.

I'll offer another piece of advice, or a warning if you want to take it that way...

We hear from a lot of authors who complain about having a chapter or series part rejected for some rules violation (the non-consent rule is an example) that they insists doesn't exist in their story. Laurel might see story content in one submission that causes her concern relative to the site rules and reject that submission simply because that is the only part that she has the opportunity to review when making her decision. She may not have enough of the story to allow her to judge the context in which the content is being presented.

The situation can usually be corrected by communicating with Laurel, but just be prepared.

Thanks for the advice. If I was hearing anything it would be much easier, but I appreciate the heads up

The OP didn't say the story had been kicked back. Issue is its been in pending for 8 days.

At eight days, I'd probably assume a Glitch In The Matrix and PM Laurel. I'd start getting antsy at about the six-day mark.

Unless it was a poetry submission. For one of those, eight days is FAST. But I can understand the OP's frustration, it being a series and all.

…that being said, I still can’t fathom what it’s like - to review dozens (if not hundreds) of stories a day, every single day, for several decades straight. At first I too assumed that there’s a large team of moderators working on the site.

I’m sure it started as a passion project, but passion fades, and in that case you’d need a will of tungsten, and a nerves of steel to keep going for so long.

True, but people have seen long pending times as Laurel waits to see if a subsequent submission helps explain the context of what she has already received.

Just giving my insight. For me, 10 days is about the average to get a response to a submission, and I don't really start worrying until day 14. I am seeing people in the thread say 7 or 8, but that maybe applies to more established folks that she recognizes. Whatever protocol she follows to check for AI and for potential rules violations, plus whatever amount of AI generated drivel has to be sifted through, it's really slowing things down.
