Publishing Erotica Commercially

I have some 450 books published for pay, in every category you can think of, except gay male. I make enough money that I have to pay taxes on the income but not enough to live on. I would like to effectively promote my books, but I have had little success. I have had a few offers to promote my books, for pay. The promoters wanted cash up front and no guarantee.

And they're all scams. They take your money and do a few tweets and facebook posts. They claim that's worth the money cause they're such 'influencers'

I get e-mails from Westwood publishing all the time about my "amazon book" they don't even reference a title.

Not relevant today but, back in the 1970s or 80s?? I used to read a monthly tabloid called "Leather Links." and I typed out a short BDSM, Femdom story. Maybe a week later, I got a call from them from California asking me if I'd accept 1 or 2 cents a word for the story.
Yes, they called me! Over time I sent in maybe 5 stories, until they decided they would offer me merchandise such as Sex tapes rather than money.
I wasn't interested and stopped sending stories to them.

But that was back in the days of Typewriters...and there was very little competition, nothing like today!

I think I still have a couple of the tabloids with my stories that I haven't read since I sent them in.

I have three books going now under two pen names. One sells constantly, one sporadically, and one has been a total failure. I'm not getting rich, but they have paid for themselves providing a few dollars in pocket money every month. But more importantly, people are paying for my work and not refunding the books. It's a real pat on the back.

Others may disagree but for me, it's the ability to pick a great cover, write a great blurb and stick at the promotion. One of the authors that follows me on Twitter credited her year of promoting the hell out of her book for 1,000 sales this month.
And that's why I will probably never be that successful as an author, I hate the self-promotion part of it.

Me either and part of why I'm not great at it, is I gave up following a lot of other authors on twitter(or muted them) because I can't take the 24/7 look at my book, buy my book, look I have books!

I've gone the route of just writing and building a library and a base and doing it that way. I do one tweet for each new release and will tweet a couple of times during the annual Smashwords sales, otherwise that's it.
