I would probably try to kill yourself before then. You will fail miserably cuz you're not that bright and you have no original thoughts.

No charge for the advice.

Going before the grand jury, eh? Good luck. I suggest watching some Perry Mason tapes before then. Or perhaps Matlock.

The flaming began fast, and countered well fast.

I like this thread.

Ass.

4L,
I would suggest doing some practice runs. This always helps me in preparing to present papers.

When I lived in Bournmouth, I went to see a trial. Quite interesting.

Well, if you really want to live and face the humiliation:

How about some cutting to relieve stress and frustration? Some simple, not too deep, slice along your arm and thigh. The bleeding will ground you and center you. Granted, you will not be any more intelligent or well spoken, but alert and ready for the challenge.

Eye contact is important. Make sure that you reallyknow your material before you get there so that you can say it and not recite it. If you sound like you're reciting it or have to think about it in order to remember it, you'll come off sounding unsure about yourself or, worse, unsure about your material. Either way you'll come off sounding unconvincing.

Watch "My Cousin Vinny" a half a dozen times before hand, and remember not to lock your knees.

Oh that and the judge is wearing a pocket pussy.

10 minutes is a long time to go without any notes at all, so note cards would be good. Just make sure that you're referring to them and not reading them word-for-word.

Another note - when I was in college I heard that fear of public speaking rates even higher than fear of dying. Go figure.

Any chances of knocking up/showing a powerpoint presentation?

they're extra handy if you got the technology/skills

speak loud and clear from the start a lot of nervousness comes from speaking too quiet

Use some charms, its always a winner, smile and talk slowy with the stress we talk too fast anyway. Be confident too, just go in there thinking you are the best ;)

And remember, if you forget to say something you did plan to say, its no big deal because they poeple listening to you dont know you have forget something.

You've got your arguement. Whether you think its good or bad isnt the point.

Now personally I love presenting, it gives me an opportunity to show off. So, my tips.

Take a deep breath or two before you stand up.

Introduce yourself and your subject

Speak loudly and clearly.

Flashcards can be very useful, just don't talk into them.

Tell 'em what you're gonna say, say it and then tell 'em what you just said (i.e. Introduce and conclude your subject)

Remember that everyone else has to do one, and the lecturers hae seen thousands of 'em. Some good, some bad

any tips appreciated

nothing funny - chances are, I'll find it too funny, and end up giggling

not nerrvousness tips, Im ok wih that

but struictural, rhetoric ones

What country are you from?

What I have done..

I make a flash card of three major points of the material, with supporting sub info as one or two bullet tips. I go over it a couple of times before the presentation, and then jump in with both feet. It's kind of like stand-up comedy, it depends on the interests of your audience. You don't have to be anyone but you, and have fun if you fail, that's why it's called school.
Some people have problems with speaking because they don't believe in their own subject matter, it has no meaning and therefore, no passion. Instead of Perry Mason, watch "Liar, liar" with Jim Carrey, and have fun with it.
Good luck!
