I've now posted 6 of the 7 chapters of my story 'Sensuality' and the maximum reads so far on an episode are over 9000

Votes swinging between 3 to 4+

I'm a new writer to Liretoica but wonder if some of the more experienced writers can comment on this query:

Do you only get some public comments/feedback after the last chapter of a story is posted or what?

Not looking for praise, but knowing what readers like/dislike will help me when consider future writes.

Can't answer for other writers, but I can say that you'll always have a biggest ratio of read versus comments. Most people don't take the time to comment and/or vote. Once they're done reading your story (not yours per se as I don't know what it's about....but anyway, I just wanted to make sure you knew I wasn't singling you out) and have attained their climax, be it mental or psychological, they'll scarper and won't think of commenting/voting.

Being new to writing might be a reason why you don't get that many comments, but I wouldn't bet my life on it. Once you get a following, you'll be better armed to know what your 'regulars' want/don't want from you. One thing going for you though, is that your story is a serial. If you can grab the readers from the get-go, you're probably gonna keep them for the duration.

As for what readers like/dislike; it's as varied as the day is long. One reader's favourite will be another's dislike. My advice? Gauge your readers' appreciation/dislike by the kind of comments you receive. Do keep in mind though that you cannot please everyone all of the time, there'll always be something that someone doesn't like in your story.

The best advice I ever received was to grow a thick skin if I wanted to keep writing and to not let bad/nasty comments get me down. At the end of the day you are the one who knows if what you wrote is good or not. Oh, of course, you'll get people telling you that liking your own writing doesn't mean that it's any good....but....if you like what you wrote there's a big chance that others like-minded will do too.

Take a deep breath, trust yourself and let the readers come to you.:rose:

I rarely get much in the way of comments on parts of series between the first and last--and the last only when it's clear that this will be a last. And the votes (and usually the reads) taper off toward the end of a series usually as well. 9,000 reads is a pretty good reader base for a series starting within the last couple of months. But, of course, reads/votes/comments differ a lot by category as well.

I agree with Lady C. It's hard to say what'll motivate people to comment or leave feedback. Sometimes people will wait until the story is done, some will comment as it's posted.

I know that myself, as a reader, if I'm reading a long story (chaptered/serial...whatever you wanna call it) I usually postpone commenting until the end if all chapters have already been posted. If I am reading it chapter-by-chapter as the author posts it, and there was a particular part of the story I liked, I'll comment.

Most of the time I only have the "loved it" type comments that others have so I usually refrain from commenting, but I always vote. On rare occasions, I'll send feedback to the author through the links provided.

The views/reads are what's important. Not everyone will comment or even vote, but obviously people are at least looking at your story so that's a good thing.

Don't lose heart on the 3 and 4 scores either. Look at it as getting 3 out of 5. Yeah, the red H is nice, but I have stories on my page that even now, the scores will fluctuate, some weeks it'll have the H, and some it won't.

I'm not sure if you're just wanting to talk to experienced writers about their own amount of feedback/comments just for understanding or if you are wondering why you aren't getting any, so if I misunderstand, I'm sorry.

Most writers don't seem to get very many feedback/public comments, however; the reason you are not getting any is because you have your comments turned off. They can't send you anything. I know it says 'anonymous', but I am logged on and yet I couldn't send you anything, not even off your main page.

I'm new too, so don't have much experience, but most of the comments on my few chapters are left publicly, I get very few private feedback messages. How they send private feedback is the same for 'anonymous' and those that choose to leave a return email and name. They're just given a choice of filling in the return slot or not. Also, and this could be because I'm a new unknown (and inexperienced) writer, almost ALL (like 99%) of my feedback has come within 3 days of the chapter posting.

I'm finding that the negative feedback is less painful than I had expected and the good keeps me elevated about 4 inches off the ground for two to four days depending. I can understand why one writer says she prints her good feedback off and sticks it where she can see it!

It's the numbers that kill me. I like "A's", I fight for "A's" and a 4-star is like getting a 75% ( a "C" in my book,) but the readers don't know that. They think they're doing you a good turn giving you that 4-star. What they are doing is pushing you away from a red-H. :(

You can change your choice for receiving public comments at any time.

Thanks for all the advice and feedback!

Whoops ? ! ? On my submissions it says "allow public comments" and that's tagged Yes

Must look at things again and see if there's something else i have to turn on!
