Public Broadcasting; Left wing Radio and Television, “Extreme Oil, The Wilderness”

As a brief thumbnail sketch, from memory, no research, PBS began as a broadcast vehicle for college classroom instruction and a showcase for the National Endowment for Art, the much maligned, (and properly so) government subsidy for artists. It expanded to classical music, opera and theatre productions.

All in all, so most would say, a benign beginning, a proper expenditure for public funds, taxes.

On a general level, I personally disagreed with government running, managing and paying for radio and television stations, I advocate individual freedom and the radio and television spectrum should be on the free market level, not the Federal Communications Commission.

But PBS over the years became a hotbed of radical leftwing philosophy and propaganda, alternative lifestyles pushing an agenda of activism on all levels.

To most, it is of little concern as the viewing and listening audience is miniscule.

But as with small things, they can become a thorn in the side, an irritant provided by the liberal intellectarati, ( a play on illuminati).

Case in point, the rebroadcast of a September 27, 2004 program, “Extreme Oil”, The Wilderness episode that aired last night, Monday, April 24, 2006.

This program is a blatant, unabashed attack on the petroleum industry and a pandering, embarrassing defense of ecological radicals.

20 percent of crude oil used in the United States comes from the North Shore fields and the Canadian Tar sands oil refineries in Alberta, Canada. Another 10 percent could come from the ANWR site if it were developed.

Simple awareness of the energy crisis would seem to dictate that all resources should be utilized to produce, refine and transport crude oil to consumers.

Not so said the line up of left wing politicians from both Canada and the United States along with a coterie of radical environmental activists from all walks of life.

This select group of anti industrialists advocate a cessation of all exploration and drilling in Alaska and Canada and forbid any exploration or off shore drilling up and down the entire coast of North America.

This program ran the gamut of sob-sister left wing liberal hippie memorabilia from 12 string guitar music to a banjo and vocal solo by a environmental activists, to crying for protection of a whale hunting village of Inuits to another small village of caribou hunters whose ‘children are only happy when we are killing and eating caribou.’

Although every Alaskan citizen receives a $1,000 annual share in oil income, some villages reject oil industry projects and prefer to live without running water and electricity to ‘maintain a native environment.

PBS directors did not rerun this program as a public service, no, they did it as political propaganda. They chose to run it again at what they felt was a propitious time in the ongoing debate about ANWR and the current energy crisis.

It may well backfire on them if people begin to understand the real cause of high energy prices, the generation long attempt by the left to curtail energy production.

But the worst and most insidious element of the program(s) is that they are ‘approved for in school viewing’. But if you go to the ‘teachers guide and instructions’ portion of the PBS online site, you will find no mention of the political content of the program, not a single word, only broad references to science and biology.

In other words, to influence your children in school, they sneak this left wing environmental agenda into the public schools through the back door, the typical liberal ploy to infect and influence young minds almost subliminally through total exclusion of fact and reason.

Not even the approval of whale hunting villages (save the whales) or the subsistence hunting and butchering of Caribou(PETA), usually the activists agenda, none of that topped the newborn Caribou calf with the umbilical cord still dangling from the Mother’s vagina.

I failed to mention the almost criminal accusations and falsehoods directed again British Petroleum, BP, “Beyond Petroleum” libel and slander that percolated through the entire program.

Higher energy prices for gasoline and diesel, jet fuel and heating oil, increased costs across the board will, as some have already noted on this forum, make it difficult for many people to live comfortably as the energy crisis deepens.

A generation long campaign by the left, by environmental activists and anti business politicians is to blame and it should be laid at their feet.

the republican majority in both houses, in at least 30 states, including Alaska*, and the republican prez have been held hostage by PBS-ers! i say, ship these tyrranical radicals to guantanamo!

*iirc

Ya know, Pure, I wasn't going to write the piece, held off for the better part of a day, then I hesitated before posting as I was quite sure how it would be perceived.

I am not a Republican, nor would I consider the 'Libertine' Party, as I have come to call the Libertarians.

But I am partisan, just as you are, but we occupy different areas of the political and philosophical spectrum. I don't mind that, I think opposing thoughts and ideas, expressed and discussed freely, in competition, are valuable tools in seeking to understand.

I am not even convinced that a 'two party' or even a multiple party system is effective outside the world of politics at discovering truth.

There is conflict, there are revolutions, there are assassinations and vast swings of political sentiment during wartime and times of crisis.

Almost since inception, the United States has been divided between those who want a larger government and those who wish a smaller one. With the passage of time and history, it is my opinion that the accumulation of legislation, rules, laws, entrenched bureacratic structures has so much disolved the fabric of the 'freedom' I seek and advocate, to a point of no return.

That is not a recent conclusion to me, I have been advocating revolution for more than half of my life. I detest politics and compromise, the 'business as usual' attitude in Congress and State Houses across the land.

Nor am I fond of the entreprenurial lifestyle, I rather destest business and the art of making money. But even so, I recognize the importance of those things in terms of every day life.

Although I don't know you from Adam, at least you are consistent in your opposition to those things I advocate. Let the insults and sarcasm continue, I suppose, but one day, it would be nice if you shared what you really think about the basic issues you support and holler about.

NPR is awesome, easily the best thing on the radio for intellectuals to listen to.

Bwahahahahahah! Our evil liberal plan is working! From our underground lair we broadcast PBS, which influences the world and keeps us in control of the universe! All are brainwashed by our scientists who want to preserve the enviornment and do other wicked, liberal things. We control the White House! We control Congress! We control the Supreme Court! (...um...wait....)

Your multitude of conservative talk shows, news programs, radio stations and a president who tosses out scientists who tell him what he doesn't want to hear are no match for our the ultimate power of our PBS influence! (....um...wait....)

Everything you fear about us liberals is true, Amicus! And there is nothing you can do about it! In the end, we will get you...and your little dog, too!

Amicus...excellent dissertation.

The "left" in this country are content to let the Saudi's, Venezuelan's, the Russian's and others "destroy" (as they view it) their environment, but God forbid that we dare to free ourselves from imported oil.

China and India are sucking up much more of the available worlds oil, prices are skyrocketing and our congress is sitting on their asses.

Drilling in Anwar should have been done 10 years ago.

Kinda makes your arguments seem a little weaker when you don't seem to know how to use apostrophes properly.

You know, I'm not into name calling, but you should really see a psychiatrist.

Anyone who would make a dopey post like that has problems.

BTW, I'm an Engineer, not an English major.

Cheesh...they're out there..

Last time I checked, pointing out to someone that they don't have a good grasp of the English language wasn't grounds for getting in to see a shrink. I'm not into name-calling, but that was really kind of a stupid thing to say.

By the way, I work at an engineering firm, and most engineers do seem to be able to grasp the basics of English, so why don't you give it the old school try?

But of course! And Starbuck's, too!

Starbucks is one of our greates liberal successes! Rainforest coffee that is addictive. Ha-ha! It serves as both a place for liberals to meet and plot and a place that lures in conservatives for hours on end. They end up drinking coffee rather than fighting us. They even end up liking that liberal music we play which seduces and brainwashes them over to our side...kinda like The Manchurian Candidate but with Lattes.

Well, I like your Betty Boops Av, even changed mine, just for you...

hate starbucks...damned pinko $4.50 coffee shops anyways....

This post is almost as ridiculous as your first post....Let's see now...How did it go? Oh, the believability of my argument is equal to the use of my misplaced apostrophes...No shit Dick Tracy.

If there's any spelling errors, please point them out....Yikes..

Right, sorry, I forgot how much credibility it adds to a post when you don't have a handle on something they teach in elementary school.

Hey, Garbage Can...with almost 8,000 posts you are hardly a virgin, but new to me, so I can still welcome you to the forum and wish you all the best!
