The search page allows to search for a keyword with further filters to be selected for the search.

However the search does not work with only filters applied (like categories) and no keyword entered.
This restricts the search functionality.
Hence it is requested to enable search based only on filters (like categories), without having to enter keywords.

You can enter * as a wildcard in the keyword field, which I think should provide the functionality you are looking for.

I've just tried that and it gives an internal server error. I wanted to do counts of stories in categories. I tried using really common words like 'a', 'the' and so on, which seems to work at least for languages that have those words. For example, if I search for 'a' or 'the' in all stories and all time, I get 679450 and 678764 stories respectively. Then I tried '.' and ' ' as a term, and they both gave me 682114 stories. So I'm going to take ' ' as the closest I can get to a wild card unless there's a better way?

You're right. That functionality must have changed fairly recently - the title of that search page for stories has also changed. Rather a shame.
