A prostate massager usually is thinner and easier to start with. Just my humble opinion.

I agree start thinner and build up slowly!! Don't rush it
I guess it's all personal preference. If you are leaning towards a prostate massager , go for that. The first time I used one I had an amazing orgasm . I prefer them to a butt plug.
Other advice- experiment and relax-and use a good lube

Well the thing is they kinda do different things. The massager is designed to stimulate your prostate . Butt plugs come in different sizes and can help "stretch" you out and you can pop larger ones in as you get more comfortable. I wouldn't start with a vibrator, just my opinion, but either way start small and use lots of lube!

My two cents. Have you started with just your fingers yet? A prostate massager is great, but takes some practice. I own three different Aneros massagers but it takes patience and practice to truly master. I agree with everyone else, though. Whatever you choose, start small and use lots of lube.

Lovescutetoes beat me to it-- start with a box of gloves, some lube, and your own fingers. It's the best possible way to start small-- you just might find that you work up very fast and who needs to waste the money on that?
