for you......and you look for more property to be taxed........

are you saying the property that you bought abd paid completely for is taken away from you if you do not pay property taxes?

Thats strange. You know what that sounds like to me?

Property Tax = RENT

Does that sound about right?

YEP

The tax is suppose to go to the school district you live in, in indiana any way. The lottery was suppose to do away with property taxes here.........they went up instead.

Here in NY, if you don't pay your property taxes, the county can foreclose. We also have a school tax we pay.

foreclosure? = eviction?

The county will seize the home and sell it to pay for back taxes.

Sounds like what a Landlord can do when a tenant doesn't pay rent, evict lock them out and sell anything sellable.

Yes, similar to that, but most mortgage companies will not allow a foreclosure, unless the occupant is also way behind in their payments. Many companies will pay the taxes and add them into an escrow account.

Dashi hanbon? have we not gone through this?

Taxes are the reality of being alive. Everyone pays taxes. If we didn't pay property taxes we wouldn't have snow removal, community hospitals, city or county roads, city government, city police officers, the schools our children go to, or a myriad of other nasty little things we all don't want. It's not rent. It's not an evil opression from the government, it's the reality of being a grown up. Period. You own property you have taxes. You earn money, you have taxes. You buy something, you have taxes. If you want to lower taxes, then let all the cruds in charge know what sorts of ridiculous programs you want cut. We don't need city parks or the guys who mow the lawns, clean the streets or have airports.

Grow the fuck up Todd.

No, think of it more as a membership fee for living in a county/city. It is your portion of the care and upkeep of the community.

You expect the police to protect you.

You expect the roads to stay paved.

You expect someone to dispose of the trash that is deposited in the dumps and landfills.

You expect someone to maintain the infrastructure that supports water, power and sewer.

Presumably you went to school; that was not pay as you go. Similarly, you hope that the people that follow you will be educated sufficiently so that your community doesn't deteriorate into a constant and unpleasant state of anarchy.

There are a host of goods and services that you beneifit from as a result of being part of a community; those goods and services cost money.

You don't have to pay it, you are free to move somewhere that does not have as a high a fee, and the the standards that correspond.

Be happy...at one time, that "rent" was part of a process that also determined who was permitted to participate in government, and if you didn't pay it, you were purposely excluded. At least in the current environment, people that do not pay property tax are still permitted to benefit from its existance, with the hope that one day they too will become paying members.

Bob Peale, if I were wearing a hat, it would be off to you for your logical, factual explanation of yet another of Todd's witless fantasies. I read this thread and I wanted to say something, I really did, but I just didn't have the stomach for it.
