I posed this in an unrelated thread but have now decided it needs its own.

Tensions are running high, with people wound up about Trump from pro to con. Overly emotional people are easy to manipulate, thus there are profiles to be made.

Somewhere in Hawaii, the pink yarn distributor is relaxing on the beach, having profitted from the "viral" spread of buying pink yarn as a protest against Trump.

In this thread lets kick around ideas to also profit from the zeitgeist. Ways to get money from Trump supporters as well as Trump haters.

Whether they are right or wrong about Trump having the political capital to get corporate taxes lowered that's where billions possibly trillions of dollars of profit exist.

major corporations have huge profits parked offshore if they can we pray treat those phones under lower taxes they will and the easiest way for those CEOs to increase the price of the stocks that they can exercise their stock options which makes millions in compensation for people in a position to make those decisions is to pay bigger dividends with the money that's repatriated so that could actually happen pretty fast.

I would look for companies where management is sitting on a large pile of stock options and the company has a big nest-egg of cash offshore.

As far as profiting from supporters or detractors directly websites pandering to either side will do well. The more extreme the better.

I made this profile to finally crush the rebellion and encourage people to use the power of hate.

there is a huge amount of
not immediately fungible capital
to be cultivated
in having all eyes on our culture
for an extended period of trumptitude...

manipulate tastes, habits, expectations and...
variou$ market$ open

TBH, as a decent copywriter with a penchant for adlibbed bullshit I coukd probably get some of that fake news $$$. Not what The Donald call fake news, actual fake news. I know Facebook is tweakng their filters to minimize it, but there's always your crazy uncle's email list.

If I were you I would do it.

By the way, WaPo started the "fake news" thing, not Trump. It backfired on them since they are liars who publish bullshit. Just like CNN and FOX... all are filled with fake BS

The financial outlook for my wall building business is outstanding.

Very, very outstanding.

Point of order. The original "fake news" was not bad journalism with a partisan agenda. It was literally fake. Random adlib nonsens on news-y looking popup domains, spread virally among morons, and trickling Adsense money.

It exploded when those who made it realized what an easy mark political confirmation bias was, especially among Trumpists. Oh they made 'em for Clintonistas too but it was among Trump chumps it became wildfire. And then it was Trump chumps who, when exposed for suckers went with the Pee Wee Herman defense and started using the term in exhange for "teh lamesteam librul mediuh".

My fake news would be actual fake news. Story salad with no agenda other than cheap clicks. I could probably make a script write it for me.

Actually the genesis of the fake news story was an entirely fake store by a fake organization calling out any sites that repeated any RT news or anything that the unknown scammers behind the fake orginization felt would benefit the rooskies.

The entire concept behind fake news was faked. Ironically, as often pointed out major news organizations regularly don't do their homework and publish things that are either outright not true or conveying an impression that is not true using minimally true facts.

That remains false no matter how often it is pointed out. I know it is, I was a newspaper reporter once, I know what they do and don't do.

I just came up with a great idea!
The irony will appeal to both sides of the political spectrum.

Underwear with orange hand prints.

I've seen reporters on TV who not only decline to report that some people are illegal immigrants, they won't even report they are immigrants.
I'm also aware many reporters selectively report. For example, Jonathan Gruber was a big name online and on some news shows for being shown on tape talking about how stupid Americans were for buying into Obamacare and the lies told about it to build public support and get it passed.
Gruber never made it into an AP story until weeks later, when he was grilled by a committee in Congress. And even then the story smoothed over why he was there.
I'm not disputing your own experience, KO, because in my years in journalism I've found that 99 percent of reporters want to get it right.
But I never worked at that level of "journalism" that had a national audience.
