Professor's Pet
I set the stack of Blue Books on the end of my desk, laid my hand atop them with my fingers draping over the bindings' sides, and pulled; they spread out across the front of my desk as if a poker dealer had been fanning out a deck of cards to ensure all 52 were there. It was the fourth and last time I'd have to do this for the day, for the week as it was; I loved Fridays.
"Your exam booklets are in alphabetical order," I announced, heading back behind my desk. The students, anxious to begin their own weekends, were already up, gathering their things, and hurrying forward. "Pick them up on your way out the door."
I sat back in my old wooden chair, watching the mayhem. One particular female student stood near the front of my desk searching. I was well aware that her attempt to find her booklet would be in vain; it was sitting alone in the top drawer of my desk.
