profanities and such

I think I tend to write dialogue the way I talk or the way I hear my characters in my head. Yeah, they pretty much swear whenever they feel like it. They say "God" frequently, but I don't think anybody has said "Jesus" yet just because I don't generally hear people saying that much. I don't think I'd use "Jesus" during sex. I think I'd use it more as an exclamation of surprise or shock, as in

"Jesus, Robin! What the hell are you doing? Get to work!"

:)

One of the very few negative comments I've received came from someone complaining about "taking the Lord's name in vain".

You said YHWH?

I don't particularly like to use religious epithets in my stories, but people do say them and if that's the character's way, I use them. Plus, in my period writing, there wasn't much fuck or shit being spoken in anger or surprise-- it was all profanities. The French, in fact, called the English of those days "Les goddamns."
