What are some good free private email sites out there?

I want an email service that's more private than an email service like Yahoo or Google.

thx

Set up a web site, the hosting service provides email service as part of the web site hosting. If you buy a domain you can have an email address of your very own.

Of course it's not really private as the hosting service has access to the server it resides on. Usually the provider could care less whats in you email, so they have no need to poke their nose where it doesn't belong.

If you want real privacy, set up your own server and host your own email server. Not a cheap option.

And even then, you have no guarantee that a law enforcement organisation won't monitor it.

Email is like bloody footprints in the snow.

If you get there before the snow melts, it's easy follow and no way for anyone to cover their tracks.

Yeah, well that's what you get for your tax dollars. Anyone who wants to can look at my email, there's nothing there except the mundane and trivial.

For regular email I use my ISP provided email. I get like 20 or so different ones included. For online anonymous stuff I just use Yahoo and Gmail.
Seems like lots of people don't use the email they get with their ISP. I don't know why not. It's as good as any, it's free, you can use Outlook or whatever you want, there are no ads and it's all consolidated under one main account. Of course this doesn't work if you're using it to cheat or be an all around asshole then it's no good.

I used my ISP email until the first time I had to change provider. Changing all my subscriptions and informing all my contacts was a huge pain in the butt and ever since then my "serious" email has been a Gmail account that I've had since 2005. It's never let me down so far.
My trash accounts are hotmail and yahoo.

I can see that. I've had the same ISP for about 15 years now though so for me it's not an issue.
