Princess Diana & President Trump

I don't think it was wholly true that the British elite hated Princess Diana. The BBC did. She could and did embarrass the Royals but nowhere near as much as Harry and Meghan or Prince Andrew.

Many of the elite liked Diana and especially her charitable activities e.g. with AIDS and mines. Some felt she had had a raw deal from Prince Charles but he also could have been pushed into that marriage.

The British Public's reaction to Diana's death was overemotional, almost as if she had been a saint or a national treasure. In retrospect, she had been a hard-working royal and generally a force for good, which she probably would have continued after the divorce.

What the public reaction would have been if she had married into the AlFayed family? No one knows but the Alfayeds were not well-regarded.

Og watch the youtube video report prepared by Christopher Hitchens one year after her death. It is very good in that he let the facts speak for themselves.

And just one or two facts:

1 She made a fortune from her divorce. About $41,000,000 + 400,000 per annum
2 She did very little for the mines or aids charities beyond very limited celebrity appearances.
3 Her brother, despite his grand speechifying made a fortune, by turning her grave into a pilgrimage site.
4 When she died she left nothing to any charities.
5 The reaction of the Diana fans was nauseating - totally over the top, but in fact less than 40% of the public bothered to watch her funeral on the television.
6 Charles got what he deserved, he's a dill. Pushed into a marriage at 32, what a wimp!
