Anastacia had lived a pauperiled life at the castle along with her family. The king had been gracious enough to give them a home on the grounds since her mother tended to the rooms and her father had been a knight there. Liege had not been particularly dangerous but the country had its common thieves and pirates that loved to come steal and kidnap young ladies such as herself.

Growing up with all brothers Anastacia hadn't been like the other women of her time, she had known how to spar with swords and had been tough enough to let a man know how she felt and on the other hand she behaved as a woman helping her mother with household duties and taking care of the men in their family.

When Anastacia grew a bit older, she was granted the job of tending to the rose garden and her brothers were to keep the land tame. Her mother had one rule as well "Do not bother the royals and be polite".

In all honesty, Anastacia had only seen the prince and his younger siblings once in her lifetime when she had been younger and even then she had kept quiet and out of the way.

Now little did she know she'd be directly interacting with one of them.

(IC) Anastacia sat down next to the small creek enjoying her break from tending to half of the roses and watering them when she heard the sound of galloping near the garden. She gathered her things quickly seeing a man a bit older than her wearing common clothing and approaching the water with a small bottle.

Curious she moved closers noticing the handsome man and looked at her things figuring they would be fine alone for a moment as she made her way over to the man.

"Good Day sir..Might I ask who you are? These are still Castle grounds although they go beyond the gate and I cannot allow anyone to pass that is not allowed to "she said stepping back a bit in case he might have been a threat.

Prince Gaston of Liege
31
5'10
Broad-shouldered and sturdily built with a bit of lean muscle, dark brown hair, light blue eyes.

As the eldest son of the King of liege, Gaston had grown up a pampered lump, a pampered lump with near-total social power and great prestige, but a pampered lump nonetheless. Spending most of his days studying battle strategy, diplomacy, elocution and oratory, Gaston’s few moments of leisure involved fox hunts and lavish banquets.

The one fact of his life that he both loved and hated was that he never had to lift a finger for himself. While having buxom attendants bath him well into his teens (when his father decided that his gentleman’s gentlemen were more appropriate for the task) certainly had its benefits, as did the exquisite meals served to him thrice daily (as he couldn’t cook a lick himself) on occasion the prince felt over-protected and thoroughly ornamental

Liege had been at peace since well before Edward ascended the throne of England and Emile Loubet was appointed president of France. This left Gaston splitting his time rather equally between attending state gatherings for foreign dignitaries and hunting fox in the surrounding countryside. It was upon returning from one such hunt that his life would take an interesting turn.

(IC) Gaston spurred his horse, Wilhelm, onward toward the palace. He had caught nothing that day and his poor fortunes combined with the unseasonable heat to set his temper on edge. To make matters worse, he was being forced by his father to spend several hours with the oafish and rather hideos daughter of the King of Belgium, with the potential of an alliance-sealing marriage on the table.

As the prince approached the garden just outside the palace gate he saw a young woman tending to the roses. He wondered if he had ever seen her before. Gaston was half-considering having her flogged for loitering, when her full, pink lips parted.

"Good Day sir. Might I ask who you are? These are still Castle grounds although they go beyond the gate and I cannot allow anyone to pass that is not allowed to.” The woman said.

Gaston was baffled by this brazen girl who fancied herself some sort of unofficial guard. Reigning in his horse, the prince dismounted fluidly. Hand on his cane, eyes full of fire he spat out, “I believe I, if anyone, am allowed in my own palace, you impertinent urchin.”

(IC) Anastacia was stunned silent by the man who's temper was quite out of order and blushed deeply embarrassed he had spoken to her like that but then again, she was not a young woman who could hold her tongue for too long.

She stepped in folding her arms "Liar.. for all I know you could be a thief.I've laid eyes on the prince when I was younger and you sir act nothing like him. Im sure the prince would not be such a distasteful simp"she said glaring at him for being so rude.

She walked over to the horse noting its beauty "Although...your mare is beautiful and looks like some of the royal horses my brother tends to."she said and stroked it's hair earning a playful nudge from it.

She smiled and stepped away from the man again gave him a once over. "I need a name sir if you are competent enough to give it without vile language? I will alert the guards of your presence"

The woman was visibly cowed by Gaston’s words. The prince smiled and began to pass when the woman suddenly spoke back. “Liar. For all I know you could be a thief…I need a name sir if you are component enough to give it without vile language.”

Gaston had intended to strike the wench if she disobeyed him or spoke out of turn. Yet, for some reason he could not explain, he felt chastened himself. This meager peasant girl had struck a chord in him of unthinking obedience as if she were his own father. The prince was at a loss as to how to respond, so he just laughed. Tears leaked from his mirthful eyes as he said, “Fair lady, indeed you caught me in a dark humor. I am indeed Prince Gaston and I am sure that the guard will bear witness to this fact.”

Gaston smiled gently at the young woman, assuming her to be a bit dim. “Now if you please, let me pass for I have much more pressing individuals to converse with today than you.”

Anastasia didn't know if she should slap this man for his arrogance or ignore him completely. She glared at him and hesitantly moved aside uttering how bull-headed men were under her breath.

She made sure to raise the flag at the gate that stood for a royals arrival then walked back over to the rose bushes clipping them. She smirked seeing him watching her and she looked over at him seeing the gate was open "Shouldn't you be on your way your highness?"she said giving a half curtsy obviously annoyed with him for his statement "I wouldn't want to keep you from important things today"she said sarcastically knowing exactly how pampered he was if he had been the prince and that he hadn't lifted a finger except for to wash himself.

She had no envy or anger towards the royal family but the way they treated people like herself with an air of arrogance like they were to bow before them as if they were gods or immortal agitated Ana just a bit. She moved her gaze from him focusing on the plants and began keeping quiet.

"Shouldn't you be on your way your highness? I wouldn't want to keep you from important things today.” The serving girl’s curt words and cold expression cut Gaston. He was surprised by how this petty commoner could elicit such emotion from him. Gaston’s mouth flapped open a few times. “You misunderstand me lady, I am a thoroughly enlightened man. I believe that all men have the same inherent worth. It’s simply a matter that society dictates that some of us are given great power while others of us are relatively insignificant.” The prince beamed at his liberality.

Anastacia paused her actions and turned looking at him with fire in her stormy blue eyes. She was annoyed with his words and her tone reflected that "If I am so insignificant your majesty... then I guess you shouldn't waste your salient time speaking with me.. I must be nothing but a garden keeper to you so and a woman. So what i say to you must not matter much as a man or prince. I suppose I should stay in my place and let you be on your way. My mother would be cross with me anyhow speaking with you so vocally."

She turned her attention back to the roses pretending to ignore him and shocked he was still there. She was annoyed yet intrigued by the prince and she couldn't believe she had been so sensitive about what he was saying to her. She felt hurt, but there was no way she would show him she was and had no idea why he was effeciting her this way.

Gaston felt a pang of guilt as the young woman turned away and fell silent. He was angered and insulted that this peasant made him feel as if he had said or done something wrong when he knew he was faultless. Besides, he was the crown prince, his word and deed were without question simply because they were his.

The Prince smiled at the woman, but his eyes held a hint of unquestionable steel. “I must be off, girl. However, if you learn to know your place by the morrow, I would be delighted to allow you to join me on a fox hunt. I may even allow you to carry my rifle.”

Gaston awaited any further remarks. Though he would be quite angered if there were any additional defiance from the woman, part of him hoped there would be. Damn this wench, she has my thoughts turned quite around. He thought

Anastacia glanced at Prince Gaston and suppressed the few choice words which she had heard from a few pirates and she said "I am not a girl your highness, I am a woman just as you are a man and I appreciate the offer but I prefer spending time here rather than off with an arrogant prince somewhere in the woods and with your behavior I wouldn't know if it were me or the fox you'd be hunting"she teased knowing he would be put off by her remark.

She turned looking at him then heard the grand clock sound off "I am done with my task for the day.. I must be on my way as should you" she said grabbing her basket and walking towards him giving him an annoyed yet amused look and walking through the gate.
