Pressure on authors

While I like several story ideas here in this section, I have to say that the "pressure" some seem to want to put on the prospective authors, is a bit too much. Coming up with ideas is semi-easy. Coming up with a whole story, even based on good ideas that others may have here, is impossible to do with as much pressure, in such a short time as people would like to see them.

Then there's the whole idea that people mustn't realize we authors do this for free.

Just a few thoughts for people ho have ideas, great ones even, but are depending on otehrs to write teh complete story for you & the rest of Lit.

whatcha mean pressure? there's no real pressure. just words on a screen. read 'em or ignore 'em. they're just there. they can't touch you. they can't hurt you. they are not even real. the written wordis just an abstraction, an arbitrary set of symbols just thrown together and given meaning over time. life is pointless, absurd, devoid of any and all meaning except that which you give it.

so relax, have a smoke or drink or not and stare at the screen. then go outside and get some fresh air. it's much nicer outside then it is in here.

lobito, i totally understand what you're saying. it sucks ass. once you say you might be interested in writing a story, prepare for two to three pm's a day asking for progress reports. really turns you off, it does.

ah, you must be feeling guilty?

unless you actually write the stories, you haven't a clue that there is pressure. if writers ignore the requests, then there no real use for the "words on the screen", are there?

don't take offense unless you feel bad about doing this to people, it was a general statement in the first place.

Yup, yup. There was a "young boy" (I'm guessing no older than 19) who harassed Chicklet for over a month and then began harassing some of us other authors.

I think this is an Author's Hangout thread, though.

i'm not feeling guilty. i just like to bitch.

just call me devils advocate.

Sure, "it's only a computer". Sure, "this is only online". No one can "hurt" us, physically, as you've stated. Write a story, though. Put your thoughts, your feelings, and your heart into it. Really work on it and strive to make it great. Most good authors won't have a decent story in a day, most likely not even in a week. Like Chicklet said, if you have 3 PMs a day (and the request thread being bumped by the starter each day) it starts to become too much.

i'm not trying to argue, but you have to understand the other side of the fence as well.

and it never hurt anyone just to walk away for awhile. if it gets to be too much, just leave.

if i didn't do that i'd be in jail right now. i'm not, so i'd say it's a valid philosophy.

Saying we need to understand the flipside make us seem like we've never wanted someone to write us a story. Your "points" are invalid, to be honest. Just as you may or may not think ours as authors are invalid.

There are thousands maybe millions of stories on the net, if you're tired of waiting, step away, for awhile, come back later, and who knows maybe a story will be ready when you come back here. If waiting takes too long, just leave...

After I posted the original post, I looked around and saw that you seem to in fact be guilty of this very idea of "hounding" to get people to eitiehr notice or write your story for you.

look, man, i am not attacking you, so please refrain from attacking me. and i hound no one. i have given only a few of my threads bumps and i have never pm'd anyone.

in fact, i wanted a lesbian sisters story awhile back. when it didn't materialize i wrote the damned thing myself.

you just need to relax and not take this shit so fucking personal.

Hell, no one has ever written my request. I stopped bumping the thread up. And, never once did I harass other authors in PMs about writing it.

well in the defense of our requesters i have to say that only one in five turns out to be a bitchy psychopath like the above mentioned idiot who undoubtably was NOT even near the end of high school

Not attacking you at all, just pointing out what I thought I saw. You seem to be taking it personal though. And YOU need to relax.

BB, I don't ask others to write stories for me. So I've never been turned down in that respect. If I can't write it, I don't need it that bad. Then again as I said there's millions of stories out there probably, so I'm bound to find what I'm looking for somewhere else.

I was being generous with the "not over 19". ;)

you're very generous, tiggs = )

pointless, i'm certain that no one is pointing fingers at you. take a deep breath, count to ten, and then bash someone's head in.

whatever..i just come here to waste time and relax. that's the only reason i'm here on this computer at all. just don't accuse people just because they happen to disagree with you.

i mean, you have to realize that it's not exactly polite to single people out, especially when i haven't done half the shit your talking about.

look at most of my comments on these threads again and you'll notice (if you read them) that most of it's just bullshit. i'm just trying to have some fun. that's all.

be nice.

They were singling you out? I know I wasn't. Are you paranoid a bit?

how about i go smoke another cigarette instead. that'll relax me.

Okay, I admit it. I have no opinion about this. I'm only here to drool over Lobito's AV.

Damn - exactly why does he do that to us women? :p

i didn't think you were. someone else was, however.

but whatever...i just wanted to make sure you knew i don't falsely accuse.

or at least i try not to.

Yes. I wrote a story a while ago for someone. It took three elapsed weeks to finish and he was going crazy by then, nagging like a three-year-old. When it was finished he didn't like it; I "hadn't done it right".

I swore never again, and I will never NEVER again write a story to order unless they pay me, in advance.

I would never do a story for pay under any circumstances, especially when people would expect that since you are being paid, you should be doing only their story, adn your real life doesn't count.
