Preaching to the Perverted

Sir and I watched a 1997 British film "Preaching to the Perverted" for the first time this afternoon and found it to be 90 plus minutes of solid s&m in which the GOOD GUYS were the s&m folks, who "won" out over the nasty hyporcitical government persecutors in the end! Quite a surpriise.

On the other hand, it's too bad that nearly all movies, TV, etc. I've seen about s&m and bdsm show only females in the dominant role. That was one of my first comments after just reading the video box for this movie.

However, I have to say I found it very refreshing to see a movie in
which there was LOTS of s&m play portrayed (even pony play!), all
safe and consensual and it was clearly pointed out to be consensual. And it is a romantic love story, where the
vanilla man falls for the fem dom and, while he consents to some s&mplay, they work out a very individualized part vanilla/part s&m
relationship in which they end up having a baby and (presumably)
living happily ever after.

I found the main character to be a quite believable pro domme, sexy, demanding, and yet very likeable and a
good people handler.

Anyhow, we had an enjoyable Sunday afternoon with the door locked, kids playing outside, watching this and letting the mood it set carry us into all kinds of fun stuff....

The movie sounds interesting, if not a little sugar coated. Still, movies are about fantasy and why not have a happily ever after where the underdog reigns supreme and the chief love interests go on to be the BDSM version of the Jones'.

LOL, one of my old favourites for a feel good mood when needed. I did so love how it portrayed him mistakenly finding his masochistic tendencies despite my usual distaste for the 'accidental sub' type mentality. Think it must have been that boyish charm and perfect English ability to portray loss of innocence in degrees. Loved the nipple piercing and pony scenes...and some of that equipment would be blissful to own. I loved how it portrayed the humanness of both characters...no perfect sub or Domme, instead two people discovering all they thought to be set in stone actually could be adjusted and negotiated for the right person, without losing the essence of who they were. I found an ex-rental copy to buy about 4 years ago and couldn't resist....saved on hiring it again too!! I also have the soundtrack which is rather good when your in the right mood.

Ummm...
the only fully realized female character in a mainstream thingie that deals with SM that I've ever seen was the sub in Secretary.

FemDoms are safer to portray but rarely does it get past some jokey glimpse at a bitch with a whip, usually a Pro.

Have to remember this movie was a comedy, though well done, and definately far removed from The Secretary...much more S&M and kink. Actually 98% SM and kink I would say.

Its a fav of mine, I got my copy from the UK some months back as I couldnt get it through local sources.
I like the flashes of pink. Tanya's warehouse is full of kinky equipment and scenes happening that I have a lot of fun trying to spot. The script is irritatingly cliched at times, but I can forgive it.The supporting female characters are wonderful. Peter's mother, Mrs CuthsWatson and Miss Witherspoon.It was a well casted film, and the fact that they used real kinkster/ fetish folk and performers is a bonus.Its an enjoyable and funny film to watch.Does Peter really become submissive? At the end Tanya says"one of these days I'm going to give you such a spanking" and Peter replies " not in this lifetime".

I am not sure Peter really becomes a sub either...but the movie does seem to imply they live happily ever after in a relationship that works for them- her being very Domme and he being mostly vanilla, with no indication that EITHER of them completely changes their ways. I know so many real life couples where this is the case. So I kind of liked that about the movie, it showed the main characters as being pretty believable.

No, it's not a hard core film or a high budget film and, if it weren't for the surprise of the "good guys" being into s&m, you could even say it's a pretty predictable plot line... but we found it quite enjoyable!

I watched this film for the first time last week. It was a night when wherever I looked there seemed to be something BDSM related. I was trying to have a perfectly vanilla boring night in, and I was plagued!

I like the storyline, but the 1990's feel from it just made me a little bored, somehow I think that the uk has evolved a bit from when this was filmed! That is not to say a complete overhaul and update would not be truly welcome. I think if the script was dragged kicking and screaming into this millenium, it would be a fantastic piece of work!

Thats not to say its not a classic.......... still like it - makes us brits look either like sex craved creatures or stiff upper lip prim and proper. Dead funny!
